Why is Chrysler the only one of the 3 considering a merger?
With new detailed plans showing a path to profitability by both GM and Ford why would they not seek a someone to merge with or buy them?

1. Maybe they are not broke?
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 02:52 PM by votesomemore
 Ford doesn't need immediate cash. It looks like maybe GM created the "big three" scare-ino in order to cover it's pure ineptitude?

2. GM should defiantly be looking for a buyer. I just don't understand why they aren't

actively seeking one.

3. Chrysler is privately owned. Could be the owner just wants to get out while he can.

6. Chrysler is owned by Cerberus Capital Management.
Dan Quayle is the chairman.

Cerberus owns 51% of Chrysler. They've known it's a dud for months.

Cerberus, owner of Chrysler, gets a harsh reassessment

4. A merger doesn't help survival in a recession.
It would help GM because GM has GMAC that has some of the fake banking money created that is now crashing.

Ford doesn't have that.

Chrysler, I believe does not have it. Besides it's German owned.

All three and even the foreign makers are all having cash flow problems because people are not buying cars. Car sales have been down for a while. Now, they are just plainly awful.

Will things pick up by Feb-Mar '09? If so, the auto companies will spend what would have been their profits repaying the loans to the people of the US in order to not lay off and not delay research and not close shop completely leaving future profits for other countries.

16. I don't think anyone has enough money.
They may have enough to buy GM, but not the bad paper that comes with it.

Besides, auto companies are not like other businesses. It's not just the finance and directing with over-arching principles of business.

The engineers, designers and rest have to believe in the people who direct to not let them down, and the auto execs are people who manage because they know things, not because they have an MBA. An MBA only said they were good learners.

Some other industry mogul could pass the improbability and work, but,

it's still the money that's the real problem.

Their whole lineup reeks of plastic and poorly thought out angles.

I am willing to bail each and every worker, but the company has no future.

8. I dunno.
I still think that's better looking than all those boxes and bubbles foreign companies put out. Not much, mind you, but slightly better.

10. Why retire the Neon?
That made no sense to me. That was a perfectly practical car. Dodge Caliber? Yuk.

Not all Chrysler products suck. The Chrysler LHS seemed like a pretty good vehicle, but that was many moons ago.

9. The Ford Family
I think still owns stock in the company and resents government interference. Chrysler has been going downhill for years and has closed nearly every plant they own in the US, just as GM has started doing. Most of the Chrysler parts are manufactured in China and since they are privately owned and don't seem to care about the workers if anyone of the three should really fold then I hope it is Chrysler.
