Is the border between the USA and Canada an Apartheid Wall?
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 03:38 PM by Boojatta
Some United Empire Loyalists simply expressed sympathy with the appointed colonial government authorities and didn't actually fight against the rebels. Had the internet existed during the Revolutionary War, they might have been no more than "keyboard commandoes." Many United Empire Loyalists were born in America or used the appropriate legal procedures to immigrate to America. Many made a contribution to America as hard workers notwithstanding the possibility that some of them might have been undocumented workers or so-called "illegal aliens." Nevertheless, many descendants of United Empire Loyalists are deprived of American citizenship. Why should they have to stop at the border between Canada and America and answer questions?

2. and you are making this point *because*?
Most of the UEL members I know NOW say that their ancestors would not WANT to come back to the States. Even now.

And you made the point that they did not FIGHT, but they also did not HELP the american soldiers either. They merely wanted to sit it out and let the rabble fight, because they were of the belief that the British would win, and they could just start up their businesses while the Brits hung the traitors.

That's a BIG difference from what you have posted. It was a WAR. By their non-action and their helping the British (billeting soldiers in their homes, providing supplies) they lost their right lo live in this country.

3. "It was a WAR."

WW II was also a war. Given that people in Switzerland were notable for their inaction during WWII, would the UN have a moral right to start deportations of people who live in Switzerland and provide that territory as a homeland for Kurdish people?

5. Who identifies as a UEL nowadays, anyway??

The Empire to which they were loyal, was not the American Empire, but the British.

These people's ancestors rejected American citizenship. Why should their descendants have right to citizenship now?

But not to worry, if the corporate parasites have their way, we will soon all be 'Murikan!

8. "These people's ancestors rejected American citizenship."
Are you suggesting that no United Empire Loyalist was deported from America, but that all who left went voluntarily?

6. Your topic and writing

Make a joke of the real tragedy of south African Apartheid and American Apartheid.

I'm sick of people making equivalencies where none exist. You are trying to piggyback something that is stupid and inconsequential onto something that was important and affected millions of people.
