I love hitting "reply all" on idiotic RW email :)
I got this piece of shit this morning:

Once upon a time, on a farm in Virginia, there was a little red hen who
scratched about the barnyard until she uncovered quite a few grains of
wheat. She called all of her neighbors together and said, 'If we
plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant
it?'

=0
A'Not I,' said the cow.
'Not I,' said the duck.
'Not I,' said the pig.
'Not I,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did.

The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

'Who will help me reap my wheat?' asked the little red hen.

'Not I,' said the duck.
'Out of my classification,' said the pig.
'I'd lose my seniority,' said the cow.
'I'd lose my unemployment compensation,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she
did.

At last it came time to bake the bread. 'Who will h elp me bake the
bread?' asked the little red hen.

'That would be overtime for me,' said the cow.
'I'd lose my welfare benefits,' said the duck.
'I'm a dropout and never learned how,' said the pig.
'If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination,' said the goose.

'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen. She baked
five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They
wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen
said, 'No, I shall eat all five loaves.'

'Excess profits!' cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)
'Capitalist leech!' screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)
'I demand equal rights!' yelled the goose. (Jesse J
ackson)
The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)
And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and
around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, 'You
must not be so greedy.'

'But I worked hard and earned the bread,' said the little red hen.

'Exactly,' said Barack the farmer. 'That is what makes our free
enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as
much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the
productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who
are lazy and idle.'

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen,
who smiled and clucked, 'I am grateful, for now I truly understand.'
But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again
baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And
all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established. Individual
initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared... so
long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.

To which I replied to all:

Good gawd what kind of mindless idiot wrote this piece of rot? I guess they haven't been paying attention to what's been going on the last 8 years. The "bread" is getting gobbled up by the big corporate fat cat executives at the top of the food chain who are getting paid mega millions for "management solutions" that are no more creative than shutting down plants and shipping them overseas...and then they fail anyway, and get paid handsomely for failing.

In the meantime, the rest of us "hens" that do actual work and produce something for a living are barely clinging to what's left of our jobs and the crumbs we get from the bread we produce are getting skimpier and skimpier.

Sorry, but I just can't find any humor in such blatant BS. I'm sure the original writer thought it was very clever, pity he had his head in his ass, if he'd pull it out for a minute, he might actually be able to see whats going on for a change.

1. I'm guessing more will read your pithy comeback then
would ever get through that long, laborious "fable."

6. I got this last week from my daughter in law. I complained,
she railed against Dems and liberals, then suggested I delete her e-mail address if I didn't like it. So I did.

10. Nah, he's the same way.
They are recent converts to 'born agains', are one issue voters...pro-life, and they have no use for liberals.

Poor us for trying to knock some sense into them, though I will miss the grandkids.

They'll likely be brainwashed as well.

But hey, at least you tried. It's all you can do!

7. reichwingnuts perpetuating the myth that the poor and unemployed are just "lazy"
Not true of course - but that's their myth. Talk about your snotty, self-righteous, elitist, nose-in-the-air attitudes. The pigshits got 'em in droves.

promptly reported all the other barnyard animals to the Department of Homeland Security because she thought they were terrorists.

14. "modern government regulations"
It's a losing strategy to count on the votes of ignoramuses who think the progressive income tax is a modern regulation. McCain and Palin found that out the hard way.

17. I've noticed that too
in fact, I have gotten a reputation as someone who comes back with more facts than these people want to read, illustrating exactly how they are wrong.

While I get removed from lists, I don't mind, and have even gotten the occasional "thank you" from strangers.

As for this parable, it makes no sense. No wonder they don't get analogy or satire.

21. On the subject of 'reply all'
I can't count the number of times I have 'replied all' with a debunking of some nonsense via Snopes. I don't make a big deal out of it, I just write 'This is false - please see link below' and send it out to everybody.

Twice now, the originator of the false email (one of which was the Obama flag pin one, and the other was Michelle Obama lobster one) really gave me the business. Apparently it is in bad taste to point it out when someone is spreading e-lies. But I will continue to do it. I think it's the socially responsible thing to do, and I'm generally polite about it.

26. I think you might have done better without the name calling
"The Modern Little Red Hen" was written by William P. Drake in 1975. He was chairman and CEO of the Pennwalt corporation.

Some things I might note.

1) Apparently in this fable, only one person (the highly-paid CEO) does the actual work. Is that how the real economy works? Aren't the 100 million ordinary people with jobs doing any of the work in this country? Should our share of the pie get smaller like it has over the last 30 years while the CEOs get bigger and bigger shares?

2) The animals have unemployment benefits, seniority, and welfare. What is the source of that? Also, where is the other food coming from that the animals eat while the grain is growing? Their needs seems to be taken care of. Who does the work to supply that? Trivial points, but they are ways that the story does not make sense.

3) Later the animals become Democratic politicians and leaders. Didn't the animals used to be members of the working class? All of us ordinary working Americans that the author of this fable thinks are lazy and greedy. Aren't those politicians supposed to be part of the government "of the people, by the people, and for the people."?

4) Do you really think rich people will quit 'working' and making millions because they are taxed at a 40% rate instead of a 30% rate? In 1975 when that 'fable' was written, the top rate was 70%, and people still worked and the country still prospered.

5) Most people are not suggesting sharing wealth with those who are lazy, but with those who are disadvantaged. "'I'm a dropout and never learned how,' said the pig." To provide training to the droupout. To provide unemployment insurance for people who have lost their jobs, disability insurance for people who cannot work because of injury or illness and also to provide for children, so they can grow up to be productive and for the elderly, who have perhaps worked their whole life but are now unable to. Is it better to do those things, or to let a billionaire add to their billions?

Since Christmas is approaching I would suggest a couple other fables - A Christmas Carol, and It's a Wonderful Life. According to this fable, Scrooge and Potter, are like the little red hen.
