Senate Democratic aide: "The left has been foiled again"
Asked what it would mean if Lieberman kept his chairmanship, one Senate Democratic aide said bluntly: "The left has been foiled again. They can rant and rage but they still do not put the fear into folks to actually change their votes. Their influence would be in question."

People in Congress really don't pay attention to you. Haven't you noticed?

3. In the Republican Party, you have to throw the base a bone.
Sarah Palin's nomination was an example of McCain and the RNC throwing the Republican base a bone.

In the Democratic Party, you can throw as many liberals from the base under the bus as possible with no repercussions.

Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 02:46 PM by tularetom
He or she was apparently a bit concerned about reprisals from "the left".

And BTW, WTF is all this "Foiled again" bullshit? Sounds like this guy is "the Aide"

6. Hey Fuckwad aide!
Look at what just happened to the wide stance party, and ask yourself if you want to go down in history as the dimwit who cause the same thing to happen to the Dems.

9. We need new congressional leaders desperately. If they had told
us they were not censuring lieberman in the interest of setting a new tone, an open forum for debate and non-partisanship co-operation, I would have respected them. All I heard Reid say was that joe is a democrat. wtf? if lieberman was going to stay, it should have been in the context of a new relationship. he is not a democrat, and he doesn't just get a pass for no damn reason.

15. Translation
Senate Democrats hate us more than they hate Lieberman. Well, we're on our way to electing newer and better Democrats. I hope the anonymous aide keeps his resume in order, because his own boss (whoever it is) might not have an office in two or four or six years.

16. Jane Hamsher made a good point when she said, to paraphrase, that
Lieberman's Dem protectors have much more contempt for their loyal left-leaning Dem constituents than they do for a disloyal, incompetent rat in their midst--that Senate club is all that matters, I guess.

Their opinion is no more or less valid than any of ours.

18. I care...
I care because they are close to the center of power. If they have opinions like this, do the people they work for as well? Given how often we've pushed for them to do the right thing -- the Iraq War comes to mind along with "bankruptcy reform" among others -- and they've ignored us, I have to wonder and be concerned.

24. Sometimes the primary is more important than the general election
That's when we get to determine what sort of Democrat is going to represent us, provided they win in November.

Always, always, always vote in the primary, kiddos.

25. I think he might underestimate how much anger there is.
My guess is that Lieberman will not be reelected. I, for one, am donating to the REAL Democrat in that race, whoever it may be.
