I have a question regarding Traitor Joe's chairmanships.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Lieberman#Committee_assignments">Wikip*dia, Lieberman belongs to the following committees (chairmanships emphasis added by me):
* Committee on Environment and Public Works
o Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety
o Subcommittee on Private Sector and Consumer Solutions to Global Warming and Wildlife Protection (Chairman)
o Subcommittee on Public Sector Solutions to Global Warming, Oversight, and Children's Health Protection

* Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship

* Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs (Chairman)
o As Chairman of the full committee, Sen. Lieberman is an ex officio member of all subcommittees.

* Committee on Armed Services
o Subcommittee on Airland (Chairman)
o Subcommittee on Personnel
o Subcommittee on SeaPower

There is talk that he will get to keep his Chairmanship of Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, but be stripped of the chair of a "lesser" subcommittee, such as the "Private Sector and Consumer Solutions to Global Warming and Wildlife Protection", part of the Environment and Public Works committee, or "Subcommittee on Airland", part of the Armed Services committee.

Again from Wikip*dia, a little blurb about each committee chaired by Lieberman,
The United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs has jurisdiction over matters related to the Department of Homeland Security and other homeland security concerns, as well as the functioning of the government itself, including the National Archives, budget and accounting measures other than appropriations, the Census, the federal civil service, the affairs of the District of Columbia, and the United States Postal Service. The committee's name was formerly the United States Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs, prior to homeland security being added to its responsibilities.

The United States Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Private Sector and Consumer Solutions to Global Warming and Wildlife Protection is one of six subcommittees of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. The subcommittee's jurisdiction includes:

* Global warming
* Fisheries and wildlife, including the Fish and Wildlife Service
* Endangered Species Act (ESA)
* National Wildlife Refuges

The subcommittee was formerly known as the Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, and Water, but was renamed during committee organization of the 110th Congress when global warming was added to its oversight responsibilities. It serves as a counterpart to the new Subcommittee on Public Sector Solutions to Global Warming, Oversight, and Children's Health Protection.

The subcommittee is chaired by Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, and the ranking member is Senator John Warner of Virginia.

The Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Airland is one of six subcommittees within the Senate Armed Services Committee.

The Airland Subcommittee has primary jurisdiction over all issues related to the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, including U.S. Navy and Marine Corps tactical aviation programs, with the exception of strategic forces, strategic airlift issues, and special operations programs. The subcommittee also oversees the Army and Air Force Reserves, and the National Guard.

While it seems that his Homeland Security/Governmental Affairs chairmanship is the most powerful, that's only true as things sit today.

Serving with Lieberman in that committee during the 110th Congress are,
Democrats:
Carl Levin
Daniel Akaka
Thomas R. Carper
Mark Pryor
Mary Landrieu
Barack Obama
Claire McCaskill
Jon Tester

and Republicans
Susan M. Collins
Ted Stevens
George Voinovich
Norm Coleman
Tom Coburn
Pete Domenici
John Warner
John E. Sununu

How many of those GOPers were not re-elected? How many of them are going to prison? Would a different mixture of Senators be more or less cooperative with Lieberman? What if there are more pro-Obama senators in the committee from the 111th Congress?

In addition, could an Obama administration increase the importance of the global warming subcommittee by making energy a bigger priority?

I'm just wondering what other ways Lieberman's influence in the senate can better reflect his professionalism during the campaign.

There's got to be other ways for Lieberman to be punished.

Does anyone remember any HEARINGS about "governmental affairs" during one of the most corrupt periods in American history?

Didn't think so.

Joe must go.

As the Dude would say, "This aggression will not stand, man!"

The Leadership {sic} may have caved, but as rank-and-file Democrats, we shouldn't let Joe-mentum, who's probably more devoted to McCain than Cindi is, continue to maintain control in the Senate.

8. Ted Stevens is doubtful, Normie is doubtful, Dominici retired...
John Warner retired and was replaced by a democrat, John Sununu was defeated in New Hampshire. So I have it as the repukes left are Susan Collins, Voinovich, and Coburn. They keep 3 out of 5 of their members, anybody else will be a replacement. For the dems, Obama would have to be replaced.

9. And whoever replaces them will not have any seniority.
Will this be better or worse for Lieberman?

The committees will not be split the way they were in 110th because there are more Ds than there are Rs.

I hope whoever gets in there gives Lieberman a hard time.

10. True, and I can't add. The repubs kept 3, lost 5 from that committee, assuming that Norm and Stevens
lose.

11. It seems premature for the Senate of the 110th Congress to be doing organizational work ...
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 03:16 PM by TahitiNut
... on the 111th Congress, when all the members of THAT Senate aren't there. In fact, they don't even know about three of the members - Minnesota, Alaska, and Georgia. Why aren't they waiting for January 3rd?? It's been my understanding that the time between January 3rd and January 20th was devoted to such organizational activities in both chambers.

Indeed, once committee assignments are made for most committees, the proportions of Dems and Repukes will change to more closely match the 58/42 or 59/41 split. That'll most often mean one less Repuke and one more Dem.

13. Not to mention the point MiniMe made in post #10.
Five fewer GOPers with seniority!

LOL!

It's not going to be as easy for Lieberman as he thinks or as people are afraid of.
