Focus on the Family updates its "War on Christmas" evildoers list.
Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 01:05 PM by MissMarple
This is from an article in our local paper, The Gazette. Focus on the Family's antagonistic stance and clueless arrogance regarding other religions celebrating holy days in December is breathtaking, not to mention those who don't observe these holidays at all. I thought this reply from the Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy people is so thoughtful.

"One corporation that has two companies labeled "Christmas-offensive" and another designated "Christmas-negligent" received the Focus letter but has no plans to alter its holiday advertising.

"We are a diverse global retailer, aware that our customers come from many faith backgrounds," said Melissa Swanson, spokeswoman for San Francisco-based Gap Inc., which owns Gap, Banana Republic and Old Navy. "We honor that by not advertising toward people of any one faith. We want all of our customers to experience a warm and friendly shopping experience."

To see the Focus shopping guide, go to citizenlink.org.

2. No blacklists and boycotts!
"People have the right to protest, but when you go over the line deciding to send out blacklists and boycotts because you lost, that is wrong; that is intolerable.''

Oh wait...

"... said Frank Schubert, manager of the pro-Proposition 8 campaign"

I guess it's OK when they do it.

24. The FOF people have no shame. They really think they have an inside track to the Divine.
And they sell it, big time. Except they are laying people off and contracting out some things they used to do in house. Times may not be as good as they think they deserve.

It was just a few short months ago that he was advertising "Holiday tree ornaments" on his web site. The bastard is clearly waging a "War on Christmas".

15. Apparently FOF contends that retailers must adhere to
"Christian"-ONLY sales - or force shoppers to acknowledge someone else's selected "religious" beliefs in order to trade in the marketplace.

I'm saddened that two of my favorite stores are on their "good" listings. I won't be shopping there any longer.

34. Here they are. I detect some good old-fashioned market competition here.
The owner of Bath and Body Works is a hard-core repuke and bushco supporter (who happens to be Jewish, too, lol!) outside Columbus, OH. His empire is in direct competition with several of the stores listed as "Ugly" for "censoring" Christmas.

And both Linens N Things and Mrs. Field's cookies have gone out of business, so their "pro-Christmas" stance doesn't seem to have gotten them any helpful divine intervention.

The Good
Mentions "Christmas"

* Amazon.com
* American Eagle Outfitters
* Bath and Body Works
* Bed, Bath and Beyond
* Big Lots
* Dillard's
* Hobby Lobby
* Home Goods
* JC Penny
* JoAnn Fabrics
* KB Toys
* Linen N' Things
* Lord & Taylor
* L.L. Bean
* Macy's
* Micheals
* Mrs. Field's Cookies
* Neiman Marcus
* Sam's Club
* Sears
* Wal-Mart

The Bad
Only token references

* Ace Hardware
* Best Buy
* Bloomingdale's
* Borders
* The Gap
* Kohl's
* Marshalls
* Staples

The Ugly
Censors "Christmas"

* Banana Republic
* Barnes & Noble
* Circuit City
* Dick's Sporting Goods
* Disney Store
* eBay
* Eddie Bauer
* Lane Bryant
* Old Navy
* Petco
* Sports Authority

Mixed Reviews
For varied reasons

* Discovery Channel Store
* Kmart
* Home Depot
* Land's End
* lowe's
* Nordstrom
* Office Max
* PetSmart
* Pier 1
* Target
* Toys-R-Us

This is so ridiculous it really barely bears attention being paid to it. However, I'll try to spend money at the stores that Focus on the Family is targeting just to show solidarity with them. FoF is targeting me, too.

I think God has pretty well made it clear, he doesn't much care for these folks.

First they asked for torrential downpours for Obama's outdoor stadium acceptance speech. Instead it was a beautiful day.

Then they prayed to have Obama lose......we all know how THAT turned out.

I think God has made his feeling known.......I predict the merchants on the 'Bad' and the 'Ugly' list are going to have great Holiday shopping this year!

PS. had to laugh, Circuit City in on the Good list......yeah, they've filed Chapter 11. I rest my case.

14. Uh...so how come we don't know what FOF's connection is to
"Christianity?"

Seems like no denomination claims them. . .no one elected them....they don't represent any mainstream "church". Sounds like a scam operation to me. Another con-artist con-servative organization which produces nothing of substance but uses fear-and-smear to vacuum coins out of the purses of the ignorant.

Because they're too lazy to go to church on Sundays?

Because every good Christian knows that Jesus would feel most at home in a Bed Bath N Beyond store.
