Is Google pushing stores up to the top of searches?
I'm finding more and more if I put a product name into google I have to wade through tons of places selling the thing when I usually just want info on it. I'll go to Froogle if I want to find where to buy it.

I'm beginning to use the other search engines more because they don't do this.

Could Google be caving into market pressures?

1. This is their business model, and business is good.
I can't believe it myself, but sometimes yahoo produces more useful results.

AdSense and pay-per-click has ruined google.

2. Same problem, here. I don't know if it's Google, or if it's that advertisers
have learned the gimmics to bump their pages to the top of Google. The ones that anger me are the universal searches, where you search for something, and a web page inserts your search term into a a generic web page title. When you click on the link, often the web page has nothing to do with that product.

Google needs some form of filter to eliminate sites who are selling a product, for those who are searching for other reasons.

4. In advanced search mode...

...you can limit your results to .edu or .org

Don't forget online databases your library may offer too.

5. google is not caving in, it has always been about money for its owners.
the mentality that google is different and special is baloney. google has always been about making $$ and its founders have done a nice marketing job selling people that it is otherwise.

gogle is just another american corporation doing whatever it takes to rake in cash and credits.

it is useful, however.
