As incredible as it was, almost 95% of it will fly right over the head of the idiots and bigots that it wad targeted towards. You can't speak to these dolts with multisyllabic words and phrases.

Here's the video, by the way:

1. Sadly that is true.....
The idiots the message was targeted at don't listen to reason or logic and indulge in ignorance and intolerance.

2. This is why people like me
have to stand and deliver for our community and it's needs.

I walk each and everyday as myself. I speak for my community. Arguements do happen, but I stay on the path of Justice for my tribe.

The dolts you refer to don't watch Olbermann. The only way to reach them is being yourself day by day, being in their face and just being yourself.

Here in New Orleans that is exactly what I do. I know who I am and what I am, and I've got my Darlin'. I back down for no one, no matter their belief systems. The phrase "I AM" is a mantra to me.

Olbermann's comment was great, but here's my version for the Great Unwashed idiots in this country:

http://gentillygirl.com/2008/11/10/prop-8-and-hatred/

The only way to change a thing is to be open and accepting. To take pride in your self. Others may not like that, or what you say, but who you are counts for everything. It's not always a safe path, but it is Truth. Doesn't matter if one is Gay, Straight or a box turtle.

That's how you change a world Darlin's.

3. I think Keith uses the "ten dollar words" a bit too much too to reach Joe Public
But I thought this comment cut to the heart of the matter simply, sincerely and effectively. Not saying it will change a lot of minds but I thought it was one of his best SC's to date.

7. i disagree, it was very clear what he said
maybe one might not have understood every word or argument. but the overall point came off very well and very strong with a lot of emotion behind it.

8. That's what I meant, compared to his normal comments
This one was more emotional and visceral than intellectual.

4. Here's what's REALLY unfortunate
Why was it Keith making such an impassioned statement about Prop 8, instead of smirky Rachel? IIRC, isn't she a lesbian?

I want to like Rachel, I really do. But she just gets more nauseating by the day. :(

6. i think it's more effective coming from Olbermann
with Rachel you know they will attack her as being lesbian and wont look past anything.

even with Olbermann the bigots will be bigots. but i think those who are not gay need to speak out on this just as strongly as gays do.

10. I thought it was strange how they didn't have the "pass the baton" moment last night
I wanted to see what she'd say about his comment, but instead they went right to her.

I admit, I don't watch her show much now. It just doesn't have much juice to it.

5. That special comment will probably fly over Joe Sixpack's head.

But I thought his analogy with interracial marriage and the civil rights movement was dead on.

I thought it was an excellent special comment that will hopefully reach the audience that needs to be reached.

9. I hope it will reach people who were on the fence
or who otherwise never really give it much thought. It was a beautiful statement and I loved it. But true believing bible types always have a comeback. And their argument for "true marriage" is so twisted that a simple statement from the heart like this will not move them.

11. I was moved by his emotion
Although to be honest, I think the institution of marriage has become a sham in general, which is why the issue just doesn't have an affect on me.

12. If he wanted to, Keith could've summed up his whole attitude in one sentence:
"What's it to ya?"

But that wouldn't have made much of a Special Comment, would it?

As for Rachel, if she makes her own comment, it will be hers and from her standpoint. But there's a lot to be said for a message like this coming from someone without a dog in the fight.

14. Those People Wouldn't Be Watching Keith Anyway
Change takes time...especially for those who can't accept it. They can't make "teh gay" go away no matter how much they prey (not pray) for it and they're on the losing side of both what's right and history.

For years, Democrats attempted to "reach out" to the other side and we saw how well tht worked...thank goodness a new majority is taking control in this country. In many ways I see this country back to where it was in the early 60's...coming out of a dark period and on the verge of major positive social changes.

Cheers...
