Forget Lieberman - should Reid be allowed to remain as Majority Leader?
I think we need someone who can tolerate a Republican attempt at a filibuster. I expect only one, abortive filibuster attempt. Among other things, I'd expect the cars of every single Republican Senator to be keyed by the good residents of D.C. Besides. given the number of people who showed up spontaneously outside the White House November 4 out of joy, how many do you think we could round up to surround the Capitol in the event of Republican obstructionism?

14. yeah
I dislike his approach but I'm not in the senate. In the end if Dems think he's the man to move legislation then I'm ok with that. Personally two fresh faces in the house and senate might help Obama's change message more.

17. uh, grab a clue. your "nominations" are worth jackshit
unless, of course, you're either a member of the house or senate.

3. Jane Hamsher's idea about what Reid said to Loserman:
per firedoglake...

"My guess? Reid told him he can stay in the caucus if he steps down from his committee chairmanship (a campaign we started shortly after the 2006 election, thanks to everyone who participated with pitchforks and torches). I imagine Reid told him they'll wait to do anything until the other Senate races are decided, but that's the way it's going to go down. Those are the rather well-source rumors circulating, anyway.

Joe now goes to see if he can get a better deal from the GOP, knowing his chances of winning in Connecticut as a Republican in 2012 are about "zero." "

Sounds good to me. I didn't realize before that Lieberman has a big motive for staying in the caucus.

7. President-elect Obama is smart enough not to get involved in legislative leadership races
It's kind of like your next door neighbor coming over and telling you what color to paint your house.

8. I'm all for cleaning house
Especially with the leadership. The first order of business should be to paste the Constitution back together. The repubs won't want to be in a real cabinet. They no longer recognize federal law, ,etc.

11. Absolutely, if he has the confidence of the...
Democrats in the Senate. What we think is absolutely irrelevant.

(And probably wrong, too.)

20. Rewarding Reid or Pelosi with the posts would be a mistake.
It would make them think that the spinelessness they showed throughout the last two years was the factor in giving them the gains in the Congress. I hope they're rejected, but I doubt they will. It's a very smoke filled room, you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours kind of thing.

One thing is for sure, now all will be revealed. They have been hiding behind the lack of executive backing and a lack of votes for two years now, now they have no excuses.

22. Your comment suggests to me that both Pelosi and Reid may be
kept on as leaders for a probationary period. If they don't deliver now, I expect a revolt in Congress.
