SENSITIVE SOUL

ACTOR/playwright Wallace Shawn blames President Bush for wrecking his love life and causing writer's block. The son of late New Yorker editor William Shawn whines to the Times of London's Web site he's been distraught over the fate of the terrorist suspects held at Guantanamo Bay. "Bush has openly mocked law and proclaimed a certain pleasure in sadism and exulted in holding prisoners and mistreating and torturing them, really," Shawn rants. "Of course this affects one emotionally: my emotional life has been very strongly affected by the fact that Bush was president and my writing life is affected by my emotional life."

NO BIDEN, NO WENTZ

PETE Wentz can thank Vice President-elect Joe Biden for being born. The Fall Out Boy rocker, who's wed to Ashlee Simpson, revealed on his blog how his dad, also named Pete, told him: "Mom and I met in Washington when we were both legislative assistants to Sen. Biden, when he was in his first term <1972-78>. I had worked in his campaign, and your mother had been in the foreign service. We started out as friends and the rest is history." His father, a lawyer, is still active in politics and campaigned for the win ning presidential ticket this year, stumping door-to-door and supervising voting lines in Columbus, Ohio, to make sure they weren't too long. "They are doing better managing turnout this year than in '04, where an estimated 15,000 people gave up because lines were too long," Pete quotes his father as saying.

ELECTION VIEWPOINT FROM THE CNN GRILL

ELECTION night Camp Obama was getting its updates from CNN. So I spent Election Night at Election Central. ....

Stock exchange reporter Susan Lisovicz introduced herself with "I'm a friend of Andrea Peyser's at The Post." Andrea? Lover of that cat-killer guy? "What a way to warm up to me," I said . . .

Somebody mumbled something about George W. Bush going down in a loose-leaf history book. Someone else, talking about Elizabeth Dole losing her North Carolina state, sniffed: "Maybe because everyone's been in it more than she has."

McCain appeared on the monitor. At that moment, had Moses been Republican, the tablet he'd be carrying would've been aspirin. ....

Sweet little backstage story. Wolf Blitzer's magazine editor daughter, Ilana, gets married Saturday. Wolf wanted to learn dance steps that went with some music that will be played. CNN contributor Roger Martin took him into the hallway and taught him the moves. This, while that other dancer Barack Obama was waltzing into immortality.
