Time to thank Pelosi and Reid for their leadership.
At least on the issue of impeachment.

I was as disappointed as anyone when I realized they weren't going to go for impeachment. Then I realized we didn't have the votes for conviction in the Senate, so it would be a somewhat hollow victory, anyway.

And then I realized that there might be a greater method to their madness. By leaving Bush in place, by allowing that increasingly unpopular President to remain in office, they let the American people decide for themselves to REJECT Bush and everything connected to him -- including McCain and many House and Senate incumbents.

If we had diffused the public's anti-Bush feelings with an impeachment trial, we wouldn't have achieved conviction -- we didn't have the votes in the Senate. But let's pretend that we could have -- then we would have gotten rid of Bush and a less despised replacement would be in office today -- carrying out the usual Rethug policies, but still enjoying a honeymoon from the voters.

Obama and every other Democrat who won re-election benefited at least to some degree from Pelosi and Reid's decision not to attempt impeachment.

He's a criminal. So is Cheney. Criminals should be prosecuted for their crimes, not just ignored because it's inconvenient. What the fuck is the point of LAW then?

2. Interesting
Very possible - impeachment might have turned this into a trench war.

But at the same time, I do want Bush and co to PAY FOR THEIR CRIMES

18. i agree.
Considering how hateful the morans were by the suggestion of "socialism" can you imagine what they would have done if they felt threatened by an impeachment.

One more thing to consider.

Some people warned of the coming economic crisis two years ago, when Pelosi and Reid took over.

What if we had pursued impeachment and the crisis had occurred earlier?

I am certain the issue would have been used to further confuse people.

Yes, Obama did win by an overwhelming majority (mandate!), but this country would be dangerously more divided than it already is.

I wonder if someone close to Obama advised Pelosi and Reid not to pursue impeachment and think of a bigger picture?

10. That has to be one of the most convoluted...
apologetic, enabling pieces of horse-shit pretzel-logic ever posted. Those people weren't voted in and vested in their positions to play party politics with a crystal ball. They're supposed to be doing their jobs as defined by their oaths.

It's time to take the country back by whatever means necessary in 2010. We have to start now.
