WillyT's McLaughlin Style DU Survey On The Code Pink Hubbub
On a scale of 1 to 10,

10 being: metaphysical damage to the Democrats, Liberals, and all things left, so that we might as well just give the congress back to the rePukes and go away,

and 1 being: who really gives a rat's ass.

Where to you come down on the damage inflicted on all things Dem\Left\Lib\anything else, that Code Pink caused at the Plame Hearing?

I'll give it a 1.

You?

5. Really, WillyT, I just can't understand what the nuns
in my grade school used to call the "brouhaha". Plame testified, was eloquent, emphatic and obviously intelligent. If one person decided to use that opportunity to bash the shrub, why is it such a big deal? Those of us interested in Plame listened and watched her closely and may have caught the tiara-ed Pinker out of the corner of our eyes, others more fully, but what's the big deal after so many years of watching the Repukes appear before congress with nothing but lies issuing from their mouths?

At least the Code Pink lady was honest!

10. Notice That Many Want To Express Their Opinions On This, But...
few want to rate its damage.

Probably because we all recognize it was fairly insignificant.

surely you have thoughts on damage assessment?

Consider it an after-action report.

Just a little numeral representing the depth of your feelings on this.

7. Does the phrase...
"Rat's Ass", when used in certain sentences, ring a bell?

Lawdy, some people can get themselves all exercised over the most insignificant things. Perhaps OCD is more common then we knew?

Besides, if this caused the freepishly-inclined to get an attack of the vapours, so much the better.

13. A five for damage, a six for "lost opportunity regarding Plame coverage" and a SEVEN
in terms of how Code Pink's credibility as an antiwar group has been decimated.

A three as regards how much the PINK STINK bleeds over onto other, focused, serious, practical and tactical antiwar efforts.

Code Pink, or a representative of that outfit, behaved badly and didn't do themselves or the antiwar effort any favors.

25. They have no aim. And by no aim, I mean NO AIM.
They're shooting the people who want to end the war.

They're coming across like a crank organization that protests for protest's sake.

That's where they have credibility problems.

Dave Obey nailed it.

29. David Obey nailed it?
Edited on Sat Mar-17-07 10:03 PM by Morgana LaFey
Did he say something new, or are you referring to his outburst for which he apologized IMMEDIATELY once he kneew it had been captured on camera and PROFUSELY? Yeah, he nailed it all right: his tie to the table is what he nailed. And he knew it.

Let me tell you something about those people who want to end the war: they don't want to end the war BAD ENOUGH. Few people in the country want to end the war bad enough.

No one can convince me that each and every one of them is making it the absolute priority ending the war needs to be.

Of course, I do realize that different people have different priorities. CODE PINK is trying to make it their No. 1 Priority, and I'm on their side on that score. You may not be.

I think a single additional death in Iraq is TOO MUCH. I think all the deaths up til now are a travesty and the ONLY way we can make anything positive of them, the ONLY way we can make sure they didn't die in vain is to make sure not another one dies for lies.

YMMV.

If there's anything to get CRANKY about, it's this illegal, immoral war.

BTW, you failed to answer my original question. I'll repeat it. You said that Code Pink "lost" credibility with this stunt. My question: when did they ever HAVE credibility, the kind you think they lost? I'd still like an answer. It's a serious question.

21. As this illegal War led by Imperialist rulers enters the Fifth Year...
I'll give it a -5 on the scale of what matters!

Considering all of those legislators who daily show themselves to be complicit in the effort to push the interests of the USA upon innocents in Iraq and throughout the Middle East, in the name of bringing "democracy" to the world, I'd say the more ordinary citizens who insert themselves into these showcase hearings and drawn-out three-four year trials and investigations, the merrier. It's sure as hell time that someone begins taking a stand rather than playing politics, as usual.

Folks are dying, daily, waiting on these "dignified" representatives to score a "political victory".

We don't want no condescending saviors. If Joe Wilson would have donned bright pink, yellow, red, blue, or green outfits four years ago and shouted from the rooftops, "It's all LIES!", on every media source available, maybe now we wouldn't be worrying that his wife's case is receiving little notice or wondering how this tragic War will end!

Long live the gutsy among us, those willing to make noise, disrupt, rock boats (and consciences), engage in civil disobedience, afflict the comfortable and comfort the afflicted, be the SCREAMERS and TruthTellers among us (and so often it's the women who are the TruthTellers -- have you noticed??)!!

LONG LIVE CODE PINK, long may they flourish and flower and flaunt. Long may they outrage -- and outflank.

YOU GO, GIRLS!!!

26. My first thought was that they were Republican plants, and I wish I were joking.
However, if they were sincere, I applaud them. We do have a right to free speech in this country and (while I was a tad embarrassed at their methods) I feel grateful at the same time.

I know my response is an odd one, but I really have mixed feelings. I'm going to give it a 2 because I don't like to provide the RW with predictable fodder. I'd rather have seen the 911 widows have a silent demonstration with signs er uhm something?

34. I honestly thought of it as a subliminal message in light of the
testimony of Valerie Plame. I don't have the exact question, nor her exact answer, but when the question was posed to her about previous agents being outed, and she responded with yes it had happened, but not by one's own government, I really thought that the Impeach Bush Now t-shirt also spelled out the remedy for the reckless acts perpetrated by BushCo**.

If I have to pick a number it'll be 1.
