Is this true? If you vote a straight party ticket in NC, you must also vote for President?

A straight party selection leaves President blank.

If you don't vote separately for President, you will have not cast any vote for President at all?

If this is ture, how well known a fact is it?

2. I posted this fact a week ago, and the people who live in NC are very

aware of it, so I suspect it's a well-known fact. Except where it's not.

3. Yes, My friend explained that the change was made in the McGovern run,

when the NC Dem party did NOT want McGovern as president, so they split out the pres. from the rest of the ballot. Like many other state "blue laws" that end up being archaic, the ballot was never changed after that, so we end up being stuck with that modification to this day.

4. Yes, it's true

but you'd have to have an IQ of warm spit to not realize it and vote both places on the ballot.

1) Election volunteers point that fact out to you when they hand you your ballot.

2) There are the same directions printed on the polling booth.

3) These directions are printed on the ballot itself.


Perhaps one day we will redesign the ballots, but for now I believe we've got it covered. 'preciate the concern though. :-)

7. not in texas -- vote straight party - one mark -- that's all

all you have to do is mark the DEMOCRATIC bubble for the paper ballot

or

the DEMOCRATIC PARTY on the e-slate (evote) and all the Dems automatically show highlighted

8. We use to be able to vote straight Democratic in Illinois

but that is no longer an option here. Every position must be voted on.

Someone told me the other day that if she didn't know who to vote for, she just left that position blank. When I told her that this disqualified her ballad/vote altogether, she became upset. Said no one ever told her this. Was in shock that no one had bothered to tell her this when she had discussed what she had done with them . I told her that I was sorry but that was the rule here. I hope she keeps this in mind this year and marks someone for all the offices in question.

9. I'm in Illinois, and was alarmed by your claim that any undervote invalidates your ballot.

So glad you were misinformed about that.

Here is a link to the State Board of Elections.

You are not required to cast a vote for every office and/or every measure listed.

And any undervote does not affect the remainder of your properly cast ballot.

10. Okay, I guess they changed that because I am not the only one

that was informed that by those in charge of the voting some years ago.

By the way, we were not give felt tipped pens to use to vote with, so there goes that rule.

Edited to add: that was when we had the chads and we were told that if any of the chads were not punched all the way through on each position/question on the ballot, then it was considered invalid.
