The Other Pandora's Box: Nightmare Scenario 11/5/2008 3 AM
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 12:44 AM by TheWatcher
You look at the Electoral Map and you see this:

Obama: 269

McCain: 269

There are a couple of scenarios where it CAN Happen. Here are a few articles that discuss it.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/23/an-electoral-college-doomsday/

http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2008/10/07/tie_scenario/

http://www.blog.newsweek.com/blogs/stumper/archive/2008/10/03/inbox-contemplating-the-apocalypse.aspx

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/05/like-kissing-your-sister.html

I've been thinking about this the past few days, and although it does appear that Obama has too big of a lead for this to happen or for them to steal it, after what we have seen the past two elections, we should be prepared for anything. I find it especially cute how CNN has going to the trouble of providing an Interactive map SPECIFICALLY for this scenario on their Web Site.

Doomsday Theorists feel free to discuss.

Right now Obama is projected for about 364 EV's. Let us Hope it stays that way.

And let us not FORGET who we are dealing with on the other side.

4. You know, I wouldn't mind seeing that.
But it would have to be Obama VS. Moosilanna.

McCain wouldn't even be able to PICK UP the Pistol, and his heart would probably give out before the 10 Paces. :)

2. Looking at the 538 article...
which is almost six months old, at that point Obama was going to have to lose Michigan, or Pennsylvania, or New Hampshire, or Ohio. The first three are very unlikely at this point, and wins in Virgina, Colorado, and Nevada are now highly likely. Anyway, the chance was only %.63, i.e., about one-half of one percent. I ain't skeered.

6. After what happened in 2000 and 2004

I would not say ANYTHING is highly unlikely at this point.

There is no reason to be scared, but if you think the other side will not try something, I just don't have that confidence.

The other Nightmare Scenario:

The election is decided by....North Dakota, which is eerily tied right now in the Polls. Wouldn't THAT be fun?

Or maybe I've had too much Merlot this evening. :)

At any rate, the BEST Case scenario is for us to wake up on 11/5 to President Obama.

And then hope that Bush and Darth actually LEAVE on 1/20/09.

THAT is a completely different paranoia though.

7. A Few necessary points to make:
1> This is extremely unlikely at this point based on the current layout of the states in play

2> a 269-269 ties goes to the house and each state gets a vote. Thge Democrats control a majority of State delegations, hence 269 for Obama is a win.

I was just looking at this scenario on the Yahoo "create a scenario" map and googled what would happen in the event of a tie.

Now that I see that I am not alone in my delusional paranoia I am now even more paranoid but less delusional which has created even more paranoia. So thanks. Time for a glass of wine and a nap...... ;)
