Exiting Bizarro World
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 07:26 PM by Pamela Troy
“There is a cult-like atmosphere around Barack Obama, which his campaign has carefully and successfully fabricated, which concerns me. The messiah complex. Fainting audience members at rallies. Special Obama flags and an Obama presidential seal. A graphic with the portrayal of the globe and Obama's name on it, which adorns everything from Obama's plane to his street literature. Young school children singing songs praising Obama. Teenagers wearing camouflage outfits and marching in military order chanting Obama's name and the professions he is going to open to them. An Obama world tour, culminating in a speech in Berlin where Obama proclaims we are all citizens of the world. I dare say, this is ominous stuff.” Mark Levin, NRO

It sure is! I’m glad Mark Levin told me about this because quite honestly, I had no idea that Obama had his own special flags fluttering in the breeze at his rallies, or a logo showing Obama covering the earth “which adorns everything from Obama’s plane to his street literature.” the only logo I’ve seen has been a stylized O with a red and white striped drape across the bottom, and the only reference I can find to an Obama flag is a case where some imaginative Freepers mistook the Ohio state flag for an Obamacized version of the American flag. I had no idea Obama was writing “street literature," “set in the world of hustlers, pimps, thugs, chickenheads, blinged-out rappers or 'round-the-way baby mamas.” (apparently the man is more versatile than I’d imagined) but I guess it’s not surprising he’d put his logo on it. It’s probably a kind of gritty shorthand, like graffiti tagging, appealing to the streetwise sensibility of the young audience of this new, cutting edge literary genre.

Speaking of which, I can’t find any marching teenagers in camouflage chanting Obama’s name and the professions he’s going to open to them (which, frankly, doesn’t sound like very adroit sloganeering. Too many syllables.) Given that I live in what some consider America’s ground zero for liberalism, San Francisco, this is a bit strange. You’d think they’d be all over the place out here. You’d think that at least one of my lunches at an outdoor café in the Castro would have been interrupted by a starry-eyed young fellow in camouflage rising from his seat to serenade us with “Tomorrow Belongs to Me.”

Every now and then I get the creepy sense that I’m inhabiting a parallel universe unrelated to the world of some of the people around me. I got that feeling years ago, in the days shortly after 9/11 when I would turn on the TV and see quotes from George W. Bush juxtaposed with quotes from FDR and Winston Churchill. Now I’m getting it again, but to a lesser extent and from a smaller group of people. We seem to be going out the way we came in, via a national crisis, and as we exit the Bizarro world of the Bush II presidency, it’s the die-hard Bush fans who are looking around in horrified amazement and asking if we’ve all gone crazy.

“I honestly never thought we'd see such a thing in our country,” says poor Mark Levin. “I sense what's occurring in this election is a recklessness and abandonment of rationality that has preceded the voluntary surrender of liberty and security in other places.”

We might actually give up torture. We might actually revive Habeas Corpus. And attorney/client confidentiality. And in the topsy-turvey world of the far right and the National Review, that would, I guess, qualify as “the voluntary surrender of liberty and security.”

1. Mark Levin is a
diminutive little troll, who fancies himself a normal sized adult male

From his Junior Johnson, to his nasally whining and sniveling, he is the perfect embodiment of "Napoleon Syndrome" A Short Fucker with delusions of grandeur.

I'm convinced he and Sean Whinity both think that talking through their noses makes them sound like they so desperatly want to sound, like they know what the fuck they're talking about.

2. I've Felt That Way Since Reagan and the Hostage Situation
I was a naive young thing when Nixon went down. I thought it was a lesson that the GOP would take to heart. I thought they would mend their evil ways, and turn towards the straight and narrow path...

Well, they did. Just not as a sensible person would. They took it as a lesson in what mistakes not to make on the road to world domination.....and as for that straight and narrow, well, they have the narrow-mindedness down pat. The "straight" part is more elusive.

22. Are you refering to the hostage situation fabricated by ...
Bush 1 where he convinced the Iranian National guard to NOT release the hostages for 3 month until after the election. If for nothing else, Bush 1 deserves to be shot a dawn for letting over 400 American citizens rot in a foreign jail for his and his bosses political advantage.

That hostage situation?

27. That's the One!
I've got a long, tenacious memory. And Bush has a long list of crimes--which will dog him through eternity in history books, with any luck.

I've never seen this.

I don't know who Mark Levin is, but I've come to the conclusion he's an ass.

Oh, btw ...

4. Where ARE all those chanting marching camo-clad teenagers?
The only ones I've seen are wearing Army fatigues and preparing to go to Bush's war.

10. My husband (Vietnam-era vet) told me about those "Jody" marching songs
they chanted in boot camp. As I recall, they were mostly pretty obscene.

18. Na,
he got that part wrong. He must have meant Joels Army.
They always twist it, a necessary part of the republican agenda.

5. It's called hope
Look, even though I doubt everything Levin says, he's right about one thing. People are piling their hopes on Obama's back like we haven't seen since the '60's. Why? Not only because of his talents, which are copious, but because we've been traumatized by the insanity of the past eight (and more) years. We're so tired, so disheartened, so embarrassed by the way we've been portrayed to the rest of the world when we know we're basically good and worthy people that seeing a good and worthy man, a man that reflects the best in our natures and who encourages us to care for one another makes our weary hearts soar, something we haven't felt in a long, long time. Pity those of us who can't see honesty and compassion without thinking it's a trick of some kind. THAT'S a sign of trauma, too, but it's the side that identifies with the aggressor.

9. Everything is relative. Compared to Sarah Palin even McCain seems nearly sane.
Compared to George W. Bush, Obama DOES look like a 'god.'

13. This is a patchwork fantasy compiled of old RW emails
and youtube bits of kids singing, on a Sunday, with parental supervision no less.

The banners are ominous too. What red blooded campaign has banners?

No, this is just old tired RW fear mongering that's been floating around for a while in an attempt to make one last ditch effort to scare people into thinking that they are hurtling towards a New World Order, or maybe it's some other subeversive plot?

It would all be funny, because it's all so over the top, if there wasn't a chance that a percentage will actually believe this impovershied attempt at propaganda from the right.

Hopefully, this doesn't play in 2008 as it once might have in 2000 or 2004. Now it's just played out.

Good call Pamela.

23. That ain't creepy.
It's a black fraternity doing a stomp. Not a very good stomp but it is just some college kids pledging a frat and posting a video. Nothing to be creeped out about.

Check out the really bad movie called Stomp the Yard to see an example of what stomping is.

and achievement.

I must admit that I have no idea what a 'stomp' is.

I getting too old to be in the loop I guess.

17. The video does exist....
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 08:12 AM by Aviation Pro
...it was used during the latest "fund drive" by Jim Robinson's FreeRepublic.com (if by "fund drive" you mean give me money to support my Winnebago habits). The video shows a group of African-American teenagers who used a choreographed drum line to announce their intentions to pursue careers based on being inspired by Senator Obama.

It was uplifting, not ominous. To Freepfucks that scares them, because....now..sob..they're.whine.going.whimper..to.bawl...have..blubber..to..cry...compete..boo-hoo..against..whimper...peoplewhowillbebetterthanthem..........WWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Fucking crybabies.

Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 10:29 AM by LondonReign2
And I have to say, his arguments are part fantasy, part confusion. I mean, at least with Limbaugh and others you disagree with them vehemently, but there is a certain sort of warped internal logic. Levin doesn't play by any logical rule-- and his listeners don't notice. He'll claim that if you add 2 + 2, the answer is obviously orange and because there are no pickles you stupid evil Democrats!

20. Levin is an ass-jag
I try every once in a while to listen to him on my way home from working the afternoon shift and I gotta tell you, it doesn't last long. He's like a little kid. He uses derogatory nicknames for every democrat and like most loser republican hosts, he uses democrat when democratic should be used. He always plays armed forces theme music, because, I guess, that makes him more American. He's a hateful illogical fool pandering to the base instict of racists and other hillbillies.

24. Quite! We'd Much Prefer the Atmosphere At A McCain Rally!
Where everyone is so much more cultured, sane, and well-adujsted, where people don't fly into a frenzy at the introduction of a VP candidate, where people never slander anyone else, and where calls to kill the oppo party's nominee are not so much as even tolerated.

What, you mean that's actually the opposite of what happens at National Socialist republican party rallies?

Oh, dear. Well, I'm certain such scoundrels are investigated and charged with a crime?

What, you mean they aren't investigated and charged?

Oh, dear.

I certainly don't like the direction THIS is headed!
