Republicans brace for night of doom in Congress
Source: AFP

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Republicans who fear seeing the White House fall to Democrat Barack Obama are bracing for more pain with the deepening economic crisis set to scythe through their ranks in Congress.

Still reeling from 2006 mid-term polls which saw Democrats wrench away their control of the Senate and the House of Representatives, Republicans look set to take further losses in a toxic political climate.

Reverberations from the economic crisis look set to help Democrats widen majorities in both chambers, and the party is envisioning years of dominance in Congress.

Just over a week from election day, November 4, Democratic congressional candidates are basking in Obama's momentum while Republicans fail to shake off the unpopular legacy of President George W. Bush.

1. I'm smiling over the fact that they'll consider it a victory
if Democrats don't end up with a filibuster proof majority in the Senate.

2. It will do my heart good to know that the whole bunch of them

are sent home. The bad part will be that they will still have pensions and other benefits. Who says crime doesn't pay? Lots of rethugs who can now sit back and enjoy their loot at our expense.

I hope the defeated rethugs are embarrassed at a huge defeat. Serves them right.
Now if we can only get our country back in shape in far less time than it took them to destroy it, that will be great.

3. "November 4, 2008: GOP's Night of Doom" has a nice ring to it
I hope that's a headline we see on November 5th.

15. The night of the long knives part deux
The Republican civil war will commence soon afterward. The christo-fascist will point fingers at moderates, and the yahoo contingent will splinter off into the independents. Social conservatives will chastise fiscal cons for not being hardcore enough. Dems just need to shut-up, step back and watch them throw each other under a bus.

We will be dragging them into history come January.

16. In one sense that GOP claim is technically correct
They have worked diligently and earned the well-deserved status of the permanent majority -- of EX-Congressmen and EX-Senators that is!

22. They have caused a permanent majority
But in their arrogance they made the assumption that it would be a "Republican" permanent majority. They never saw a permanent Democratic majority coming.

8. NIGHT. OF. DOOM.
It will be a wonderful night and a long-awaited comeuppance for that Election Night eight years ago when they sickeningly switched Florida and we all knew the fix was in.

Hey, there's a Republitard that needs to go here in FL-12. Adam Putnam.

Why not, especially if you're in a safe blue district, consider contributing to Doug Tudor, who's looking to take Putnam down? He's a progressive, a retired Navy Master Chief and a helluva guy.

12. I have seven bottles of champagne
ready to be iced down. I'm wondering how many of them I can drink before I pass out.

Of course, I can't really start celebrating unless Proposition Hate goes down in CA.

... or introduced to the "French tradition" of a guillotine in the public square.

As it is, most will land cushy jobs in reich-wing stink tanks or peddling corporate greed over the globe.
