The smoking gun: Palin plastic surgery?
http://principalquattrano.com/blog/2008/10/04/the-smoking-gun-palin-plastic-surgery/

I was working on this post about the Sarah Palin flag pin/brooch issue, and I thought it would be kind of cool to photoshop (actually, paintshop pro) a giant blinking flag sign across her chest, just in case the reason she’s doing poorly is because her flag pin is not large enough.

So I went looking for a photo of her on Google, and I was having a lot of difficulty finding one that showed her upper torso. Most of the photos I found are either official posed photos of her face or shots of her speaking from the chin up.

I finally found this photo on Wikipedia, with a notation that it was “taken at the Alaska Airmen’s Trade Show in Anchorage, Alaska in May 2008″.

<snip>

(errrr... okay - this gets its own thread because ... it seems necessary?)

1. Could be, but I dont think she looks particularly "plasticky"
She just doesn't have that stretched, shiny look. She's young for a face lift.

The last photo is retouched -- you can see the way the wrinkles disappear under her eyes...

I can take 15 years of age off any face with Paint Shop Pro. That's what the "after" shot looks like to me.

That said, her face looks puffy in that one photo. Of course, so does mine. heh

I don't care if she had it, but I do mind the idea that it's of any significance.

Should we list Dems who have had plastic surgery, because there are plenty of those too!

6. I suspected that cosmetic surgery was what she was
bent on keeping out of the public eye. So what it looks like to me is that she had her eyes done and perhaps a chin tuck. Not a big deal. She would be only one among many public figures to have had cosmetic surgery, only it would certain cut into her present schtick of Joe Six-pack.

In the second photo, her eyes are wide and they may have been photoshopped; however, that doesn't preclude cosmetic surgery.

9. "full body" shots of her during the gestation period of her grandson
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 06:08 PM by SoCalDem
were carefully "excised" shortly after her being named vp-wannabe...Many of us discovered soon after we started searching, that the whole Alaska site was down for quite a long time, and when it came back, a LOT of pictures were "poofed"..

The ambiguous ones were put back, but many of the others are down the rabbit hole (except for those of us who saved them right away)....the ones that were put back often had dates altered from the original ones, or the same picture attributed to different dates in different locations withing the website..

I always thought it funny that even in the indoor shots of her with other people, she was multi-layered with coats & jackets, when everyone else was in shirtsleeves....

The "eye thing" is probably airbrushing :) I don't think she would have had time for a "lift", and probably didn't really need or want one:)

Professional make-up artists are quite good at their jobs:)

11. Any professional shots were likely retouched by the photographer
Or the company that took the photos. That is pretty much the standard these days. They take out any lines and smooth out the face as well as get rid of sagging chins etc.

12. Who cares? I had plastic surgery--purely cosmetic, not for a birth defect or injury--when I was 15.
Would I have done the same thing as an adult, if I'd had to wait? Probably not. But it's done. (And I wasn't alone--it's a bit of a rite of passage for suburban Jewish girls.)

My partner's had plastic surgery, too--true, his was to correct an injury, but still.

I should hope, if I run for anything, nobody actually cares about this, much less treats it as a "smoking gun."

16. she's had a lot of work done
make up artists can't tighten skin, make your chin larger or make your cheeks stick out further than they do.

She's had the newer kind of work you see on Hollywood stars -- not tightening at her age, but "fattening" and the cheek and chin implant is supposed to lift things. Look at Madonna's face, for example.

Who cares? Well, it's interesting to me. I don't give a crap what plastic surgery a person chooses to have; but when you are selling an image of aw shucks hockey mom who has had 5 babies but is thin and naturally attractive--- kind of making ordinary women who don't have nannies and chefs and plastic surgery budgets feel inadequate, I like to know what is behind the image.

Sure, lots of pols have some work done. No biggie.

But are they being sold as sexual objects? Not so much. Palin is, and she does it on purpose. She has presented and conducted herself like Patriarchal barbie. Her plastic surgery is part and parcel of that -- and it horrifies me. Her whole Handmaid's Tale thing horrifies me.

She's open game as far as I'm concerned -- ESPECIALLY because as a feminist, I am appalled by her entire demeanor. I dislike being sold this line of crap from a person who doesn't read, lies all of the time, and doesn't know that the pledge of allegiance wasn't written by the founding fathers. Yes, celebs claim the same crap she does and we all know it's a lie, but we also know they are selling an image -- one that is perhaps harmful to us and our children, but does not impact world policy in the way Palin's image does.

Why has she spent 22,500 on make up and 10,000 on hair for TWO weeks? 150,000.00 on clothes, multiple plastic surgeries and then called herself a hockey mom, just like you? Susie Six Pack? Not so much.

The question becomes, just how much of a hypocrite is this person?

Enter, the plastic surgery discussion.

I know many of us would want to look good before the cameras...but when does it stop that it's "Vanity" over having some impediment that might focus the media on an area we didn't want explored.

If Dennis Kucinich had got his ears "tucked" and his voice lowered a notch would he now be our Presidential Choice in a close election?

Given John McCain's high pitched weirdo whining voice from an old 40's Movie and Sarah's "Eliza Doolittle" transformation...who knows anymore what anything is about. "Style over Substance, Substance over Style" or just that the McCorporate Media SPINS AND SPINS so much we don't know anything about anything anymore...even trusting "instincts" when they've been "spun"...rinse, repeat, rinse, repeat.

Her politics are shit, and her world view is utterly twisted.

If she got a little cosmetic pick-me-up, that's fine, but I wish she'd get a brain transplant, too.

Edited to add: If she has had work done, it's not obvious, or over the top. She still looks relatively normal for what she is, and not all "fun house mirror" like some people who have plastic surgery.

36. Does anyone remember having a "Vacuform" toy as a kid?
It was a heating element that you put various metal forms upon
and then a sheet of plastic that you put in a lever type of thing

So you closed it up, left it a bit, then turned off the heat until it cooled

Then you had a plastic mold of the thing that you could paint

Somehow it brought up that memory

40. it's botox not plastic surgery
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 09:35 PM by pitohui
i get botox myself to get rid of eyelines, why not, we have the technology, and it takes like 10 seconds, it is NOT plastic surgery

everybody in the public eye over the age of 35 gets botox, not much to see here, i'm more concerned w. all of her theft (charging six figures in designer clothes, faking expense accounts, and so on)

or let's put it this way, she's younger than me and looks worse, if she's had plastic surgery, if i were her i'd be VERY unhappy

no this is just simply botox in my humble opinion

this is the usual reason eyelines come and go, because botox wears off

as for the jaws and neck, i don't know, they're just awful for a mere 44, i got another 5 years out of my jawline/neck before it started to "go" so i don't see much evidence of plastic surgery there -- quite the reverse!

46. To be fair Joe Biden probably has had hair transplants...
Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 12:49 AM by spin
It is a fraying, combed-back helmet that barely covers a longtime fact of Washington life: The senator from Delaware has taken steps to pre-empt baldness.

The most common hypothesis is that he received a hair transplant, where follicles from the bushier back of the head are grafted onto fading spots closer to the front of the dome.

In 1987, a Washington Post reporter asked him to confirm the theory. "Guess," he responded. "I've got to keep some mystery in my life."

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0808/12760.html

If Sarah Palin had a face lift or Joe Biden has had hair transplants...so what?

If we just continue to ridicule Sarah Palin all we accomplish is to give her publicity. Four years from now she may be Republican candidate for President. Considering the mess the Republicans have left for Obama, he may need eight years to solve the problems left behind.

Just ignore her and she will go away. She has had her fifteen minutes of fame.
