My grandmother's encounter with a RW today
My grandmother takes a film class at her nearby senior center. Today they were watching a film about illegal immigrants, and during it (maybe immediately after it?) the woman next to her says "If Obama wins, this is what's going to happen - we are going to be totally overrun."

My sweet, kind, loving grandmother turns to her and says (quite loudly, I'm told), "That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts!!"

I'm told the other woman slinked back in humiliation while other people agreed with grandma.

I :loveya: my grandmother.

4. I love your grandma too...
I think there are a few moments in our lives when we are tasked with saying the exact right thing, and there are those who do not. Your Grandmother is one of those people who says what should be said. I love stories like this. Please send my heartfelt thanks to your grandmother for me.

11. Sounds a lot like MY Grandma!
Are we related?

Over a certain age, people believe they've earned their right to speak their minds. (They're right, too!)

Bravo to your Grandmother!

16. So Whose Gonna Overrun Us?
Kenyans? Indonesians?

Right now with our economy in the shitters, who would want to come over here?

So much for the immigration "wedge" issue.

18. I know!
This ominous "illegal aliens" scare tactic. Never mind that at some point almost all of us were aliens here.

The really funny thing is the movie they were watching was about an American citizen whose life was made better through his dealings with the immigrants. The woman totally missed the point.

20. I grew up in a home which had a shrine to
Jack Anderson. My father had no use for the conservative movement though he was a church going man, he thought they were major suppliers for Scotts (the lawn product people).:toast:

24. We had our moments. . .
But we all tried to steer the conversations away from politics during dinner, he would get so angry food would fly from his mouth as his face reddened over something he read in the paper. Ah, my formative years! In retrospect, it was a lot of fun!:)

21. Good for your grandmother
My Gram would probably kick someone's butt for saying such a thing: Her beloved father-in-law was an illegal immigrant. Of course, he was 3 years old when he arrived in Ellis Island coming from Italy, and in those days very few immigrants were "legal" (hence the term WOP: Without Papers).

23. One question: does your grannie live in NJ?
Because if she does, my apologies to her. The offending woman may have been my grandmother. She said something eerily similar when I left Mexico to go visit her. I nearly blew my top, but my grandpa has a bad heart and I was afraid I might kill him with foul language.

27. Phew...
I was hoping that my grandma has enough sense not to spout that crap out loud to people outside of the family. See, most people in my family agree with her...so sad. Cheers to your very rad grannie; she kind of reminds me of my dad's mom, who is hopefully watching all this election stuff from the great beyond. She'd love Obama:toast:
