Report from McCain rally in St. Charles, MO (New Town)
McCain held a rally today in a new urbanism development called "New Town" in St. Charles, MO. I am proud to be a resident of this new and thriving community. New Town website

The ironic thing is that New Town is comparatively one of the most liberal places in otherwise conservative St. Charles County. Maybe that explains why only about 500 people showed up for this rally. Or it could be that nobody wants to take off work to attend a loser's rally.

This was my first rally, and here are some of my observations:

1. I think it is lame that the organizers try to get the crowd to chant slogans by mimicking crowd cheers through the surround sound speakers. It didn't work too well. I think that about the only one that worked was "Sarah! Sarah! Sarah!" Maybe when the crowd is bigger than 500 people you can't tell that the chants are starting from speakers.

2. The Republican strategy is currently deeply flawed. Basically, it relies on the Republican base being unable to think past slogans. On the one hand, McCain and the Republican speakers are trying to warn against the tide of socialism that Obama and a democratic congress would supposedly bring on. But then five minutes later, McCain is preposing that the goverment buy out all bad mortgages. :wtf:

3. The local band that was hired to play was called "Rough Riders." This band played Republican favorites like, "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy,"Family Tradition," and "Friends in Low Places." These songs are about sex, boozing, and picking fights once you have lost. This is the Republican party that we have all come to love. My virgin ears could barely handle the lyrics in these songs. O8)

It appears that the Republicans are using Obama's "spread the wealth" quote to warn against the dangers of socialism. They are already framing the recession as caused by ACORN and the Democratic congress. They are warning that if the Democrats take control of the presidency and the congress (which they conceded as probable), then America is going to have a recession because the Democrats are going to raise taxes and prohibit free trade. They are saying that Obama wants to tax "hardworking Americans" and redistribute the wealth to those who currently don't pay income tax (those lazy unemployed people). That gets an enthusiastic response from the crowd.

Oh...and they are implying that this election is being stolen by Acorn. So they are already making excuses for the loss they all know is coming. And they are already framing the debate to blame the Democratic presidency and Congress with causing the Recession.
:nopity:

I think that the Republican machine is moving on, and beginning to frame the next 2-4 years with a message of Freedom vs. Socialism.

1. And yet Republicons have just instituted Socialism for the Wealthy
Handing our hard-earned tax dollars over to their banker & Wall Street Buddies.

Ptoooey on republicon socialism for the rich, and their 'redistribute our money to the rich' schemes.

3. LOL. Yep. Reality has a Democratic bias.
Five years from now, many Americans will believe that the Recession was caused by the Democrats.

6. Hey! Didn't know anyone else from St. Charles is on DU!
McCain sounds as lame as I thought, 500 people, and that's it, I'm not that surprised. I wish our county wasn't as conservative as it is. I haven't even seen New Town yet, I live out by Harry Truman Road.

:hi:
