a letter from a right-winger.
I am posting this not to poke fun, but to give people on the left an insight into what's going on in their minds these days. It helps to understand what eats at them and why some of them feel so desperate. I feel sorry for this person, but there is nothing I can say to him about politics anymore. When people are thinking with their "lizard" brains, there isn't much you can do.

This person is a relative and sent this to another relative of mine. He's an 80 year old man, retired, who holds a little money in the stock market. Doesn't trust the "liberal media" but does listen to FOX and right wing talk radio. He was a high school teacher before he retired--is college educated, believe it or not.

"Thank you for the nice card ! But it looks like we have been FOOLS. Why pay back money that the government is going to pay for. The world is on the verge of losing our free-market system. If and when we put OBama and the liberal democrats in complete control of our( right now) poor government---we will see the complete break-down. Many today are NOT paying off their loans !! Why should they, the government is promising to buy these loans and allow the people to pay back if and when they can or want too..
Your parents were also fools for paying off their home loan ! Why when the government says they will pay off all these loans !!! And anyone that don't believe that this is happening is blind !

Obama, who was born in Kenya, is a muslim according to the leaders of the muslim countries. After he becomes president he will pardon all his terrorist buddies---just watch. The world economy will cash is all the bonds they hold in our government--and everything will crash !!! I wish I were wrong---but we are on a fast track to that end right now. AND THIS IS NOT REPUBLICAN LIES. Only wish it were lies, but you see everyone that owns stock or bonds cashing them in everyday in spite of all the things that the government is trying to do---If you are smart you will go to France and stay there, until this all blows over, and that will probably be several years---after everyone sees the lies that the democrats are making. THIS IS WHY I AM SO ANGRY ABOUT THIS WHOLE ELECTION--- good and honest people do not see it coming and won't until it is too late I'm afraid..

In the past couple weeks your Dad and I and thousands of others have lost 40% of our money. thank you democrats----not Geo. Bush--- Barney Franks and Dodd and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reed. And all their supporters-----If we also had a democrat as president now this would all have happened sooner. John Kerry would have helped it along.

Oh I am sick of writing----But you just watch--all that I am saying will happen over the next few years, unless by some miracle Obama don't get elected .

I wish I could convince him that everything will be all right--better than all right. But he blames Clinton and all the Dems for everything that's gone wrong with the economy, so he'll never believe it.

as people who watch faux news and listen to RW talk radio have been brainwashed.

15. I agree. Not dumb, just brainwashed.
First you only listen to your side. Then you justify everything that they do. Then the other side becomes the side that does everything wrong. Then everything that goes wrong is the other side's fault.

Let's hope that every one of us doesn't get the same way except on the left. Especially with our party coming into power--we really have to guard against that mindset.

2. 3 stages of truth
First it is ridiculed.
Then it is violently opposed.
Finally, it is accepted as self-evident

3. The only hope for people who so fervently believe that way, is once
Obama is in office and they see things turning around -- not crashing down like they predict -- they may begin to take off the blinders and begin to think.

17. Well, they'll have to live in fear for the rest of their lives, and that's a
miserable way to live. It's their choice - if they don't take it, nothing anybody else can do.

No wonder our schools are in bad shape. How sad that repugs are instilling so much fear in people for political gain. There should be a law.

8. Er, uh, hmmmm, what did he teach when he was a teacher?
Not that the title "teacher" automatically gives one intelligence or common sense or reason, but I do wonder what he taught. I also wonder if he was a good teacher.

Just random musings.

14. he taught math and science--mostly math in his later years.
That's a way of thinking that doesn't really lend itself to analytical or critical thinking, does it. Everything with math is black and white with no nuance.

So yeah--there are different kinds of intelligence. I have no idea how good he was but he taught 35 years and got promoted up the grades until he was only teaching 12th graders' elective courses.

18. Thanks for getting back with me.
I was hoping it wasn't civics or political science or history. Somehow those subjects seem to come to mind when I talk politics.

I can't speak to his promotions; those could be just as much politics as talent. Please, don't misunderstand, I'm not disparaging his success. I think I was musing more about whether his students learned from him; it's very subjective, I know. Anyway, just things crashing about in my brain today.

:hi:

10. The person is un-reachable. A very closed and jaded mind. I wonder
if people like that EVER admit that they made a mistake. I have known some very authoritarian teachers in my days. I bet this person was one of them: it happens to insecure people, they learn their stuff, they teach their stuff, and they always are the "expert" in their classroom, so it sort of spills over into every other part of their lives, in other words, they think they know better than anyone else.

Don't get me wrong, I know MOST teachers are not like this person...most are open to new ideas, working on teams, considering the welfare of the children before anything else.

Just my two cents.

23. oh he's got the answer to that one:
Everything good that happened under Clinton is because of Reagan and Bush I. And so everything bad that has happened under Bush II is because of Clinton.

Convenient, eh?

20. When have you EVER heard a RWer admit they made a mistake?
Never!

Just like Bush, they do not possess the ability to self-criticize. In fact, most of them seem to have burned out the areas of their brains used for critical thinking.

Ask him if there were ANY mistakes made by Bush, et al and wait for the response.

It's always somebody else's fault.

Bush was bad, according to him, but at least he wasn't a liberal. In other words, Kerry or Gore would have been even more disastrous.

21. How does he explain the peace and prosperity and respect
around the world achieved by the Bill Clinton administration? . This country was not perfect then, but it was not broken. He cannot deny that these last @ 8 years has broken and sucked the life from
nearly every part of our Country. The Democratic Congress of 2006 has not been fighting corruption with a flame thrower, but cannot be held responsible for the signing statements that have stopped legislature that would have helped to correct some of the republican destruction.

How can he, living through WWII and Vietnam, not realize how corruption lives as long as we permit it, and that propaganda is it's tool to deflect blame and maintain the life of this harmful criminal disease.

If he is on Social Security and Medicare, does he appreciate it? Does he care about what kind of world he will leave if this country does not become a melting pot.

Ask him not to listen to what is said, but to look at the actions of our leaders. How they understand democracy, improve our individual lives, and uphold the Constitution.

24. these types look at everything through a filter.
It goes like this: Clinton is a liberal, so everything that he does is wrong. Period. Liberals are to blame for everything that has ever gone wrong, and Conservatives are the only ones with sense. He says that Bush was a "bad" President, but that liberals and Democrats are far worse. A bad Republican is still far better than any Democrat.

He was talking about Social Security once, and complaining that they didn't raise it for cost-of-living. I said, "Social Security and Medicare--those are some good ideas that Democrats thought up". All I got back was a blank stare, and he then changed the subject. The filter was still on and what I said did not compute.

kill yourself or get him too worked up.

Good luck, and remember Archie Bunker and Barry Goldwater opened up and softened to liberal ideas.
