3. Say it isn't so, Joe!
A Republican plant? I don't think anyone could have foreseen . . .

Ah fuck it. He's had his 15 minutes, and the Republicans had better gird their loins for another 40 years in the political wilderness.

This story is too good to be true. I can't believe the treasure chest that is Joe the Plumber's life.

I'd love to spread the word, but as of yet I haven't seen any proof
for most of that list.

I saw the video, so that is true. What about the other stuff?

22. I'm a clerk to a district judge. Those funds are disbursed from EVERY court fine
to various agencies and have nothing whatsoever to do with the case in question. A fine for speeding gets distributed in exactly the same way. I'm not trying to defend the guy but wrong information is wrong information.

28. But this isn't a speeding ticket
This is the costs related to his divorce. Those funds are not disbursed that way. The battered women's shelter was somehow involved in the divorce.

31. Not necessarily. At least in my state ALL court cases contribute to those
agencies. Are you familiar with all the evidence in that case? I hope you understand I'm not defending the guy...I just think going off half-cocked and assuming things not IN evidence doesn't help our cause...it's the kind of thing we roundly criticize when republicans do it.

33. Thank you
The mandatory contribution to the Battered Women's fund was explained in another thread where this court case was originally brought up. JtP wasn't charged with battering; it's just that part of costs go to the fund.

35. In our state, that's not the case
so I'd guess we'd need to know how AZ works

In our state, criminal court fines have zillions of allocations -- which is why people are shocked to find that their $100 traffic fine suddenly becomes $800.

However, in divorce cases, there are merely filing fees, which go directly into the general funds, and court reporter fees for court hearings, which go directly to the court reporter. Other than that, nothing gets allocated to anything, unless there are other fees involved.

36. Actually I should have said court FEES in addition to fines which aren't levied
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 11:54 AM by notalemming
in civil cases, obviously...but in our district every tort case generates fees (from both parties) which are distributed in the manner I mentioned.
Here's part of one recent case showing where some of the monies go...this is a DUI case and they go to a little different set of agencies in divorce cases but it's the same principle. The court's server is down right now or I could grab one of those. (I don't even know exactly
what some of those acronyms mean...they were invented before I got here and I never bothered to ask. haha)

19. Hmmm... I think someone in another thread said those costs are applied in all divorce cases, though.

Just like normal court fees, some of the cost goes in a fund for battered women. I don't think that was a domestic violence case there.

I just want us to have all our ducks in a row while we expose this jerk for the fraud that he is. ;)
