6. I saw Paulson's face before going on "GMA" this morning
and he looked as if he had seen a ghost. Turns out he had: the ghost of an economy.

There was going to be the announcement of September retail sales and some other bad news that escapes me at the moment. Hell, I knew the other day that the spooktacular news was all a house of cards. We need change at a fundamental level. All this other crap (lowering interest rates=printing more money=dollar weakening) is just smoke and mirror and another hit of economic smack for the money junkies. We need serious rehab!

25. Volatility is the fatal enemy of the investor. When you invest, you want to have
as much as possible a known rate of return. This is the opposite, it is almost pure gambling. That is why people are pulling out, because they don't have any idea where the wheel will stop. So capital sits on the sidelines which creates a downward pressure on stocks.

27. I couldn't disagree more. Volatility is what begets returns.
Especially for those of us who aren't done buying. Volatility is the best friend of the dollar-cost averager, the long-term investor.

I don't know anyone who invests in stocks expecting "as much as possible a known rate of return." That is nonsensical.

Markets like this return stocks to their rightful owners--those who are willing to own shares of good companies for the long term.
