Bush completes secret negotiation with Iraqis over level of deployment of our troops
He's made a deal with a foreign government (negotiated in secret, without the participation of Congress) on the level of of deployment of our military forces in Iraq. I call that treasonous.

He's willing to make deals with Iraqis, but he has no respect at all for our democratic process which, under our constitution, should be the first and primary decider of where, why, and how long our nation's defenders are committed to the defense of a foreign power.

US, Iraq agree to let troops stay until 2011

15 Oct 2008 15:17:07 GMT

BAGHDAD, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Washington and Baghdad have reached a final agreement after months of negotiation on a landmark pact to allow U.S. troops to stay in Iraq until the end of 2011, U.S. and Iraqi officials said on Wednesday.

The two countries also reached a compromise on the difficult question of whether U.S. troops could be tried in Iraqi court for crimes committed while deployed in Iraq, an issue that both sides had long said was holding up the pact.

The agreement was submitted to Iraqi political leaders for approval, a first step toward ratifying it in the Iraqi parliament, Iraq's government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said.

A U.S. official in Washington confirmed that the final draft had been agreed by both sides and would require U.S. troops to leave by the end of 2011 unless Iraq asks them to stay longer.

The administration of U.S. President George W. Bush had long resisted committing to timetables for withdrawing from Iraq, and U.S. officials had in the past declined to comment on any deadlines that might be contained in the agreement.

2. He could have negotiated it on one of our forums and DUers wouldn't pay him any more mind
. . . than they have the actual 'agreement' announced today.

3. The Bush* Administration agreed to a "Timeline"

4. same thing
they can 'negotiate' the length of our troop's deployment with Iraqis, but don't bother to seek any authority from our Congress on making such an agreement. I don't think the distinction you're highlighting makes their actions any less treasonous and anti-democratic.

The Bush* Administration has been very Adamant about No Timelines.. They equate that to losing the war and yet here they go and negotiate a timeline..I was highlighting the Hyprocrisy of it...

9. oh, man . . . now I see what you're getting at
of course, you're absolutely right. His 'time horizon' is just an old-fashioned timeline, albeit negotiated with absolutely no intention of Bush making ANY of those moves out of Iraq.

(sorry for the crankiness. I'm off my meds today)

10. US, Iraq still negotiating troop presence deal
27 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AFP) — The United States and Iraq are still negotiating the terms of an agreement on the future presence of US troops in Iraq next year, senior US officials said Wednesday.

"Nothing is done until everything is done. Everything isn't done. The Iraqis are still talking among themselves. We are still talking to the Iraqis," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

He declined to say whether the two sides were even close to a deal.

12. Where is our Secretary of State: why isn't she keeping the America people apprised of HER
diplomatic efforts -- family members of those deployed have a right to know.
