I'm sure that the right wing will do everything possible to paralyze a President Obama. I do not look forward to the bile and excrement that the Clintons had to go through in the 1990s. Will Obama be immune to such nonsense, or will we have to suffer through the ridiculous smearing of a President in order to stop the Obama/Biden agenda. I have always felt that the lies and ridiculous stories that beset President Clinton were efforts to stop his agenda in lieu of what befell President Kennedy.

Most Americans are desperate for inspiration, and should Obama be fortunate enough to be elected, I would hope that the USA could overcome petty differences and become the great nation of myth. I suppose I want a Jimmy Stewart type world, and I know it sounds naive. However, I've had enough with all the character assassination, and I hope that most of my fellow citizens agree. Will the population stand for the slander currently masquerading as a political campaign from Palin/McCain?

I want to move forward, not be covered in sewage. What do you think? Can our candidate, and hopefully our President, nullify this nonsense?

1. absolutely
until the "democrats put justice back on the table and start holding the repuke criminals accountable for their outrageous crimes, until the Fairness Doctrine is restored, until money is no longer equated with free speech and corproations no longer equated with human beings, the repukes will lie louder than anyone in the history of the planet.

2. Of course. Seems to me they're already prepping for a McCain loss....
.... and four years of trying to undermine the Obama presidency.....That makes bigger Dem majorities all the more important.

Been thinking the same thing lately
I pray that Americans will no longer tolerate that shit anymore. I also am encouraged by glimmers of hope in the MSM. But these ARE nasty, vindictive, petulant Repugs we're talking about. This time, the American people are engaged. I am encouraged by the rapid response of the Obama campaign to squelch their efforts right away. It really is refreshing to see a spine again.

9. Krugman reckons so- and so do I
We’ve seen this before. One thing that has been sort of written out of the mainstream history of politics is the sheer insanity of the attacks on the Clintons — they were drug smugglers, they murdered Vince Foster (and lots of other people), they were in league with foreign powers. And this stuff didn’t just show up in fringe publications — it was discussed in Congress, given props by the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, and so on.

What it came down to was that a significant fraction of the American population, backed by a lot of money and political influence, simply does not consider government by liberals (even very moderate liberals) legitimate. Ronald Reagan was supposed to have settled that once and for all.

What happens when Obama is elected? It will be even worse than it was in the Clinton years. For sure there will be crazy accusations, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see some violence.

The next few years are going to be very, very tough.

11. Yep. From Counterpunch, too.
Especially from Counterpunch.

Within six months they'll be calling him a mass-murderer, and within a year, have him intimately connected to the Bush family, several dictators, and the ghost of King Leopold.

Obama has one chance: he can go blind, become a sharecropper, and learn to play Delta blues.
