I can see the fire on the hill from my place.

LA firefighters battle wildfires

The fires were burning 20 miles (32km) north of Los Angeles
About 1,000 US firefighters are tackling wildfires near Los Angeles, which have caused two deaths, with 12,000 people driven from their homes.

The first major wildfires of the season threaten hundreds of houses north of the city, in the San Fernando Valley.

Southern California is vulnerable to wildfires between October and February when the warm, dry Santa Ana winds blow in, drying out vegetation.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in two counties.

The order covers Los Angles and Ventura.

1. Santa Ana is no lady.
Good luck to all in this long night.

2. Wow, scary picture. We had one in the hill right above us during the summer...
I freaked on the second night and went to stay with a friend. I could not breathe. We're okay now, but the denuded mountains look susceptible to flooding/slides if we ever get rain.

And I still find blackened leaves in my back yard from time to time. If one of those glowing embers had blown under our eaves...

Santa Ana winds are a bitch on wings, aren't they? Santa Barbara County is on fire watch through Wednesday because of them.

Stay safe, okay?

Hekate

5. I'm all stuffed up and my eyes are burning...but I am counting my
blessings for not living in the line of the fire and am praying for those that do.

One of the doggie boarding facilities we use is in San Fernando and I went over there a few times today to make sure they weren't having any problems with the air quality. So far, so good.

8. Damn, I bet my porn collection just tripled in value!
Seriously, that's pretty scary - you all stay safe, and try not to breathe too much of the smoke...
