he said the problem for Palin is that she's billing herself as a reformer/outsider/maverick, who will change the way things are done in Washington. This undercuts that argument and exposes her as just another typical politician.
They also had a reporter on from the Anchorage Daily News on who specifically said he wanted the viewers to know that this is part of an ongoing problem the Palins have with their inability to keep their private lives and public lives separate. He then went on to mention her/their abuse of the per diem when they were at home, and her using a private email account to conduct official government business.
If the media (and Democrats, but not Obama) made these points when discussing this, including comparisons to the last eight years as you point out, it could turn off some voters. It won't matter to the mob-mentality types that show up at their rallies, but their mob isn't large enough to carry them over the finish line. They need people with functioning brains too, and this should be a red flag to them.
