McCain was a complete dick and so was Brokaw
I don't think the thing was fairly moderated at all. And McPrick's demeanor and common courtesy are an embarrassment to the process. Yet Obama still blew them both out of the water. Now I admire him even more. The deck was stacked against him going in, and he prevailed.

1. I am listening to the debate again from last nite.
and McCain tone and demeanor was just rude and condensing.

2. Why do you use the past tense -
he still is a complete dick.

Although, I did like the end, when McCain blocked Brokaw's camera shot...
...and blocked his view of his script.

It reminded me of the old man at the nursing home where I once worked who would stand between the movie projector and the screen and then wonder why part of the movie was blotted out.

:rofl:

5. Funny. True. Yes, there is that. I think both Brokaw and McCain were dismissive to Obama at the end.
In one sense, I'm glad he gets under their skin like that. In another sense, I wish they could use a professional decency toward him.

3. I think this poem fits Obama nicely.
If...
Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

15. Wow, that made me cry.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

Perfect.

6. I agree. The first time, I was listening for content...
The second time, I listened for attitude. Obama was heads above McCain in every way...most definitely in common decency and manner.

McCain is a washed out old man who was trying to hold onto the only fame he had...POW...and we took that away from him. Then we criticized and laughed Palin out of the picture. What's left? His excitement over Sarah was his last hurrah and I got the feeling she slapped him back into his place a couple weeks ago.

He sees the light and just wants to get this over with.

11. Yes, that is what happened. And if I saw it correctly, Brokaw wasn't much better. As I saw it,
he purposely turned and dodged a chance to acknowledge Obama at the end, during the mingling. I need to see it again though.

12. OK then I wasn't seeing things...
It looked like Obama reached out to shake hands with Cindy right after being snubbed by Johnny. She kind of took up the slack in that way that wives of assholes often have to do in public. Typical Alpha Male gorilla behavior, ie. "Do I know you...?"

As for Brokaw dodging, I didn't see that. I'd have to know whether he acknowledged McPrick or not at that point to make a judgment. It's possible he didn't want to appear to be congratulating either one of them.

13. I Thought Brokaw Did Perfectly Fine. What Was Your Issue With Him?
I didn't see anything that would lend itself to the wild notion that it wasn't fairly moderated.

14. To me, it seemed like he let McCain ramble on way past the red light and then was quick to nab Obama
on the time limit. If someone breaks it down, it seemed like he gave McCain way more time overall, than Obama. It just didn't seem balanced. If I'm wrong, I'll admit it later, when I see who got more minutes and more answers. I think Brokaw was easier on McCain. If I'm wrong, I'll repost later.

16. He Let Both Of Them Talk Until They Were Done With Their Point.
Obama broke the time rule repeatedly as well, and I can't recall any moment where Brokaw stopped him within the middle of his talking. I thought Brokaw did perfectly fine.

18. Here...
SEN. OBAMA: Well, I think .... banking it works. Everybody goes to Delaware because they've got pretty loose laws when it comes to things like credit cards. And in that situation –

MR. BROKAW: Senator.

SEN. OBAMA: -- what happens is, is that the protections you have, the consumer protections that you need, you're not going to have available to you. That is a fundamental difference that I have with Senator McCain. He believes in deregulation in every circumstance. That's what we've been going through for the last eight years. It hasn't worked. And we need fundamental change.

MR. BROKAW: Senator, we want to move on now.

20. He Finished Didn't He? Irrelevant Post.
Brokaw tried several times throughout the night to remind them of time limits and tried to interrupt BOTH candidates several times throughout the night as they went on. But each time he let them finish. BOTH of them. Your reply clearly shows that he did in fact let Obama finish.

19. Brokaw SCOLDED Obama after almost every time Obama spoke
while he said "thank you very much senator mccain" almost everytime Mcsame spoke. He also laughed at every off color joke Mcsame made towards Obama. I thought he was pathetic.

But no matter. Obama still killed it in spite of the clear bias.

17. During the one minute discussion he allowed McCain a minute to respond but completely cut off Obama
and moved to the next question. The question was the following...

MR. BROKAW: Should we fund a Manhattan-like Project -- that developed the nuclear bomb -- to deal with global energy and alternative energy? Or should we fund 100,000 garages across America, the kind of industry and innovation that developed Silicon Valley?

Look at the transcript.

He constantly allowed McCain to go way over on time and made no effort to stop him. Not a word or gesture. Obama's time goes over and he cuts him off. This was AFTER he had noticeably allowed McCain time that Obama was denied.

26. That's what I thought and that's why I started this thread.
Someone will eventually do a breakdown of minutes allowed each candidate, answers allowed and total time to speak. It seemed to me McCain took way more time. Not that it did him much good.

25. I saw Obama shoot Brokaw a 'fuck you' look when Brokaw interrupted him mid-sentence
but how Obama handled him backfired on any plans of Brokaw to help McCain.

I wish I had that kind of patience.
