Something just went wrong with McCain's face on national TV

In the post below, we showed a scene that just took place in which McCain was momentarily confused on stage, not knowing where to go. We posted the video because it was funny. But Joe just realized that literally seconds before McCain became confused on stage, his face twitched or convulsed twice. Look at the photos above and below. They're from around 5 seconds (above) and 11 second (below) into the video Joe posted below.

It happened twice. First in a rather major way at 5 seconds, then more minor at 10/11 seconds. You can see McCain's left eye twitch closed, and at the same time, the left corner of his lip twitched upwards - it's especially pronounced in the 4th photo above. What is going on with McCain's health? This isn't normal. And it happened right before he became confused and couldn't figure out how to get off the stage.

3. has that ever happened?
a candidate nominated by a national party (I really hope not, it would be very bad for him) being forced out just barely a month before the election for medical reasons? What will/can the RNC do?

7. Could be a mini-stroke..
perhaps he's having mini-strokes, which very well can lead to a major one. His face seems twitchy and puffy of late, not just in that video. I noticed it during the debates too.

12. People have been commenting on his droopy left eye
for some time now.
Sometimes it is droopy, other times his eyes are real wide on both sides.
First time I have noticed the mouth twitch like that.
I have noticed he gets befuddled more during the evening, but hell, he is 72.
I would be willing to bet the guy is getting serious meds to keep him going.

15. Chemo can do things to the brain and it can hurt your memory and
your all around awareness.

9. This was just McCain trying and failing at some sort of expression with his face
an epic wink fail, if you will.

The OP had me worried for the old guy for a second there.

Get me my needle nose pliers.
Now that I've followed the link and seen the video I have to say there is ABSOLUTELY NO story here.

He was just thinking of nuking Iran. He always twitches when he nukes Iran.

11. That's where the implant is.

Chimpy had a black box under his jacket on his back during the prez debates.

McLame has his implanted in his cheek or in his neck.

Lady Bullwinkle has hers in her beehive.

14. That's upsetting.
He clearly has something going on to cause the drooping on the left side of his face. That wasn't there during the primaries, was it? Add to that the twitching and the apparent confusion. I think it's about time they addressed this.

17. He's steadily getting worse
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 02:06 PM by Wednesdays
People were starting to point out strange things about the way he looked about a month ago. The videos from that time were inconclusive IMO, but now things are happening more and more often often and are far more striking.

Here's another recent video clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGv6Nl-rrvU

I'm not worried so much about "tics" than his overall demeanor: he now appears tired, worn-out, perhaps even drugged-up. Compare that video with ones of him even as recently as the primary campaign:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaL273PG8pM

Some videos discussing McCain's health issues:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRY4NeD7Fpk (the title is misleading--play it anyway)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lvesa49zSIM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s2tvmx5ehE

I give it 50/50 he'll stay in the race until November 4th.

20. I don't see it. It looks like a normal speaking movement.
As a way to emphasize what he's speaking. Nothing stroke- or palsy-like in it. Now, if it had lasted longer or didn't match what he was saying, then I could agree.

21. There's also that moment of confusion onstage
I shared the clip with my son, who worked for a while as a receptionist in a nursing home, and his immediate response was that "that befudled looking back and forth" was exactly what he'd observed there.

The facial twitches may or may not be significant -- but McCain is clearly not on top of things.

24. Well, he picked a beauty pageant contestant
And for those of us of a certain (ahem) age, we remember Bert Parks saying how important the naming of the First Runner-Up was. Because in case the winner of Miss America was unable to perform the duties of her office for any reason (like posing nude for Playboy), then the First Runner-Up would assume the crown, scepter and duties.

I'm sure Sarah is ready to step up to the task. And our political folklore will be the richer for it.
