How many workers were going to be laid off REGARDLESS...

...of the passage of a bill? Did the bill's failure to pass not give businesses coverage for more layoffs? I don't know the answer to that. What I do know is that I was laid-off 3 months before Lehman collapsed, and so were many thousands of others.

My company insituted a hiring freeze in 2003! Over that span, 6000 jobs were eliminated. Also over that span, the company's stock price rose from $21/share to $47.


EDIT: Market capitalism pits Main Street against Main Street. If you have stock in my company, you are thrilled beyond belief that so many thousands of us have been laid off.
