This bailout was concocted by the bush cabal
It was promoted by the boy king itself, who even broke out the Vote-for-the-Iraq-War-Resolution-or-else speech just for the occasion. He merely changed "weapons of mass destruction" to "economic weapons of mass destruction" and "Saddam" to "subprime mortgages."

It was pre-planned, pre-written and ready to deliver, just like the PATRIOT Act.

It was made the centerpiece of a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom by reichsminister paulson (the ultimate wall street insider).

THIS SHOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH REASON FOR EVERYONE HERE TO REJECT IT.

11. put together a package that is a fix instead of a reward to those who failed.
put together a bottom-up program that saves people's homes and jobs.

16. This is the stupidest OP on a very stupid day at DU
Not all of us are fucking morons who think only through infantile formulas.

Were you advising people to avoid the Bush administration flu shots? Do you avoid riding on highways built by Bush administration budgets?

The merits of the bail-out are independent qualities to be assessed on their own.

18. Bullshit. The 110 -pg bill was NOTHING like the 3 pg proposal
Paulson wanted. Paulson wanted czar-like powers and no oversight. Today's bill had 2 layers of congressional oversight and taxpayer protections. Here, read it for yourself:

22. the czar "may" abide by the law or restrictions
which legally also means he "may not"

this was still a supply-side bailout of the institutions and individuals who screwed the system into collapse. It would merely forestall the inevitable.

It preserves both Paulson's originally requested amount (which is still just an arbitrary amount pulled out of a neocon ass--nothing in this act actually identifies the specific problem or its magnitude), his authority to administer the bailout, pretty much at his discretion (he "may" do this or he "may" do that) and his self-fulfilling prophecy that now, all of a sudden, the problem is catastrophic and needs immediate solution (after years of inaction, making the problem worse, failing to understand that a problem was brewing and claiming that all was going just magnificently).

The program still contains almost no specifics about how the money will be used, what the specific problems are or how throwing money at them will solve them.

Despite the goals stated in Section 2, nothing about this plan is even intended to solve the root problems that created this meltdown--its sole purpose is to keep the Titanic afloat for another (short) period, presumably until after the election.

One would have thought that Democrats would have put forth a plan that was centered on helping workers and the middle class instead of the villains who foisted this extortion scheme on the country.

25. Paulson absolutely escalated it and made Monday far worse
than it would have been otherwise.

Paulson is an ass. A gigantic, arrogant, typical frigging repuke moneyed piece of crap who never tires of smelling his own aroma.
