30. Well, let me put it this way - simple but conveys my impression -
The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

I say, "Slow down because the initial 450 billion will initially go to the PRESENT Executive Branch."

I know Barney Frank is highly intelligent but I know the dark recesses of human nature and this is a ROBBERY of the American Middle Class.

Ask yourself, other than Social Security, WHAT ISSUE has Congress told GWB "NO" on?!?

Really, this is a huge mistake and when we drop into a Depression in four to six months, the M$M will cheer lead The American People into blaming a democratic Legislative and Executive Branch.

14. The Bush administration delivers a sucker punch that Democrats lean into.
This is insane. The Democratic party will be seen by a majority of Americans as big spending hacks for Wall Street, saving Bush's bacon. The GOP will vote against this bill, and hang it like an albatross around the necks of our party.

This may be where we lose the election of 2008, and the presidency. This bill has no significant support in the population and it is insane to pass a bill that lacks widespread support. If the party passes this bill without 2/3 of the GOP reps voting for it in both houses, our leadership is out of its god damned mind.

65. Your conclusions are unsound and unwarranted.
We should do nothing about passing the bill until the population says they want it.

This is a politically stupid move, because it is not what the public wants.

You were right when you said you don't think, however.

79. The public was wrong about plenty of things
Quite recently too... Saddam's link to Osama bin Laden being the most glaring example. Until recently many people didn't believe in the reality of global climate change, and many still don't. Are you suggesting that we should wait until the entire economy is totally, irrevocably screwed and people finally say "help us!" before we do anything? That's exactly what it sounds like you're saying.

112. You still don't seem to get it. The public votes how THEY want to.
Not how you think they should. That's the oldest losing theme one hears among fellow Democrats. It assumes that YOUR judgment is superior to that of others. Maybe it is, but that is irrelevant to the point of winning elections.

We win elections by representing what people want, not by supporting bailouts they do not want. It's THEIR money, not yours to use as you see fit. Just because you think the bailout makes sense doesn't mean the population agrees with you. And contrary to your supposition, those people DO understand the situation better than you.

114. Maybe, then, just maybe
our representatives should be willing to put their asses on the line to do what is actually needed, then. Also, if "those people" understood everything so well, they wouldn't have taken out all those mortgages they couldn't afford no matter how hard the "financial wizards" at places like Countrywide begged them to do so. The public, which has run up enormous personal debt, is not squeaky clean in this department either.

113. Well, they dodged the bullet.
This is a good outcome. No bailout and now the GOP has bought the collapse, if there is one. Even if nothing happens in the markets substantial, the public isn't going to suddenly reward the GOP in a declining economic market.

Best of both worlds, and we lucked into it.

I have not had access to the debate...who said seniors won't be able to get their savings? How do they figure that as long as they don't have more than 100 grand in one bank? Are they saying now that the FDIC is also going bust?

I can't even form an opinion on this...one side of me thinks this is typical rip off the middle class BS (like the Iraq WMD issue and everything else has been under bush) and then the other half of me wonders if the admin who has cried wolf for 8 years is actually telling the truth for the first time in history.

WTF!?!?! Who can tell! :(

Like CNN used during the debate. We could all vote during these debates.

She is for the most part a useless conservative Democrat.

Looks like she was unhappy many in the membership wanted a roll call vote.

99. They want it to fail so they can (falsely) claim they're with 'the little guy'
... and the Dems are 'with the millionaires'.

Most folks with active brain cells know thats totally twisted but the GOP'll still try to claim it that way and use it for a McLame talking point.

There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
"There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief.
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth,
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."

"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke,
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke.
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate,
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."

All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.

Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl,
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.
