McCain took time last night to prep for the debate he said he was skipping

September 26, 2008

John McCain did a few hours of high-level debate prep in his Arlington, Va., condo last night with podiums and mock questions, a top aide said today.

After taping interviews for the evening newscasts, McCain returned home and practiced for his first face off with Barack Obama, a session that included aides tossing out potential question and coaching his performance, Mark Salter said to the campaign pool reporter en route from Washington to Memphis. Apparently, the practice took place between phone calls, as McCain aides said last night he had been working the phones with congressional leaders and administration officials

2. So...his goal was to disrupt Obama's prep with this farce, but still
prep for a debate himself that he did not intend to appear at, during the campaign suspension that didn't exist, during the crisis that gave him plenty of free time?

3. By jove, I think you've got it..
one of the McBush surrogates actually made a very cryptic remark today about Obama "having to cram" for three days for this debate, and McBush not having to prepare at all...It's all a very weak psych game they're playing, they take Obama for a fool. :eyes:

4. Obama's probably thought about it a couple times
I don't see him needing to "cram" on positions he knows backwards and forwards.

10. Daily Kos reports McCain is running scared:
Concerned that the public relations battle had turned against their favor, John McCain and the group of conservatives who opposed the outlines of the compromise financial bailout package will likely back away from their recalcitrance, an official close to the Administration tells the Huffington Post.

The Republican source, with direct knowledge of the negotiations, said that GOPers and McCain were "scared about the press perception" that they were at fault for "blowing the thing up." The takeover of Washington Mutual on Thursday combined with the continued downturn in the futures and credit markets "also scared them," to the point that a bailout deal seemed within the realm of possibility "over the weekend."
