I suggest a moratorium on the bailout until AFTER the election
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 05:00 PM by panader0
Perhaps 100 billion could be put up on Paulson's terms, with the rest waiting until the new administration is in power, the Dems have the votes they need, and there has been time for the dust to settle and calmer heads to sort out the particulars of this boondoogle. What do you think? A hundred billion to hold us until Nov.?

1. Not a bad idea.
But I admit, I have no real understanding of this issue. :hi:

2. They want to use the election to wedge this in...
You watch, the further from Paulson's original proposal, the more economic pain they'll create.

Oil jumped up $25 and the DOW lost 373 today.

3. I've been reading plenty about this, (see my journal) and I think that's the best
possible way to go. However, the Republicans have their marching orders and would never go for it. The Joint Economic Committee is meeting on Wednesday to craft the bill that will go to both houses of Congress. Your best bet is to sell it to the most progressive member on the committee, Rep. Maurice Hinchey-NY 22nd distr., and see if he can run with it. Most DUers are unrealistically just opposing any bailout. Maybe I'll be surprised and this will gain some traction. I'd suggest you post this on the Obama and DFA blogs as well. Good luck to you and all of us.
