Cheney at AIPAC: It’s the U.S. and Israel Against All Comers
The Bush Administration seems to believe that a belligerent United States and an intransigent Israel can take on all comers.

So it was that Dick Cheney went to AIPAC’s convention in Washington on Monday to heap praise upon this lobby, which defends every illegal act that the government of Israel commits.

This is the cozy, symbiotic relationship that AIPAC has with the Bush Administration: AIPAC wants Bush to eliminate the Iranian threat to Israel, and Bush wants AIPAC to pressure Congress so he can play out his macho fantasies worldwide. Said Cheney: “I commend AIPAC for the fine work you do,” adding, “I bring warm regards from the President of the United States. . . . He asked me to convey to this gathering his great appreciation for your efforts.”

One of those recent efforts has been to oppose Congressional attempts to make Bush get legislative approval before he goes out and bombs Iran. This is the cozy, symbiotic relationship that AIPAC has with the Bush Administration: AIPAC wants Bush to eliminate the Iranian threat to Israel, and Bush wants AIPAC to pressure Congress so he can play out his macho fantasies worldwide.

In his talk, Cheney linked Israel and America arm in arm as the bastions of all that is good in the world.

“Progress in the cause of security and long-term peace never comes easily,” he said. “Yet the United States and Israel persevere in that cause.” This requires, he said, “moral clarity, the courage of our convictions, a willingness to act when action is necessary, and a refusal to submit to any form of intimidation, ever. These qualities are a credit to the American and the Israeli people.”

The crowd cheered. Not a surprise. AIPAC has been the chief cheerleader all along for Bush’s adventurism.

8. Israel is sure playing a dangerous and losing game here, with the despised Bush Junta

as its only ally in the world. And if we ever are able to restore our right to vote--and can remove the rightwing Bushite corporations and their 'TRADE SECRET,' PROPRIETARY programming code from our election system--Israel may find that it has severely damaged its reputation with the American people, and has lost a lot of support with its militaristic attitude, its fomenting of war, and its apartheid policies toward the Palestinians. I think this is very unfortunate. I think Israel has a great contribution to make to Middle Eastern culture, and I would like to see support for Israel continue, for this and for another reason: I believe that Israel has a rightful place in Palestine, and that Jews should have a home, a safe haven, after all they have suffered at the hands of European society, going back thousands of years. But I think that their current path into Bush/Cheney madness is suicidal. I don't think that Israel and AIPAC were the cause of the Iraq War, although it serves the purposes of Israeli warmongers and war profiteers to have the entire US military in the Middle East, as it serves our own. The Bush Junta would never do anything out of friendship for Israel or anyone else, or because they thought it was right. They are treacherous in the extreme, and they will abandon Israel in a cold minute, if their greed lead them elsewhere. Israel couldn't have a more devious and ill-intentioned ally.

And when the American people finally get rid of Bush and Cheney and their horrid regime--if we ever do--we may decide that Israel goes with them, as to the billions in military aid that we provide. We've been bankrupted by these Bushite SOBs anyway, and so it may happen without any formal decision. Or Israel may succumb before that. If the Bush Junta strikes Iran, the entire Muslim world will rise up, and their chief target will be Israel. And we will have no friends in the world. In fact, I believe that the world is prepared to punish us severely and take us down if we cannot prevent our government from committing such a lawless act. I think the punishment will mainly be economic, perhaps a deliberate crash of the US dollar. (No one but the madmen in the White House wants nuclear warfare.) China, Russia and India recently met to discuss how to curtail the US bully. China holds much of our debt paper--debt driven up by profligate Bush Junta tax cuts and war spending--and China gets much of its oil from Iran. An attack on Iran is an attack on China. India has Pakistan to worry about and its nukes. Pakistan is right on Iran's border, and any strike on Iran will destabilize that region, and perhaps put jihadists in control of Pakistan's nukes. And Russia, although its empire is greatly reduced, is still a nuclear powerhouse, and has long had economic and other interests in Iran and Iraq. And if all this blows up into a widened Mideast war, with or without nukes, Israel will not likely survive. It is too small. And we don't have the soldiers or the economic strength to defend it in such a war.

I really don't understand the people at AIPAC. Surely they must see these realities. How can they ally themselves with these Bushite monsters? This is not supporting Israel. This is dooming Israel. And I can only suspect that, as with the Bushites and collusive War Democrats, greed and war profiteering are driving AIPAC policy.

14. I agree - Cheney is the most dangerous ally ANYONE could have
Edited on Wed Mar-14-07 07:22 AM by LeftishBrit
I hope the Israeli government come to their senses and realize this, before Cheney leads them into suicidally dangerous actions, for themselves as well as everyone else.

Cheney is a monster.

ETA: And thanks for pointing out the situation as it is: that Israel are allowing themselves to be used by Cheney and the American right, rather than that Israel are controlling Cheney!
