The Progressive Wing of The Democratic Party must, in coalition, make itself heard. Now.
I have no drag in any political circles. I have no influence. My name and reputation is not known outside of these pages, and frankly, that does not bother me in the least. I have no contact with any of the "A-List" political bloggers and writers, on the left. They wouldn't know me if they tripped over me in the street. But some of you do. You know how to get in touch with Markos, Jane, Glenn, Duncan, Arianna, Matt, Aravosis and many of the others.

Now, right now, immediately if not sooner, a coalition of bloggers and other voices from the left, including Krugman and Dean Baker and those like them, must be formed, ad hoc and with all speed and alacrity. A list of demands must be drafted and presented to the leaders of Congress by a committee of correspondence for these times. They must know that WE are watching, we are keeping a close account, WE have demands and requirements for any plan going forward and WE have reached our point of sufficiency in all this folderol. Either they do the right thing, by us, either they put some real teeth, some real punition, some real consequences in this bailout, or THEY will, at this most crucial time, face OUR wrath.

These are the elections. Now is the time when OUR power is most concentrated. We must now use that power to make sure that some dead-of-night dog of a bill does not leave the common folk on the hook for fortunes untold, while a few walk away, unmussed and unsullied, to lead the good life on the money they have stolen from us.

If ANY of you have ANY personal contact with ANY of the worthies listed above, now is the time and this is the place to use what influence you have with them to get something started soonest. Like an hour ago. Or more.

Congress has the power: It all has to end here. We can end it. We just need the organizing efforts of the above-listed worthies. They have the names. They have the knowledge. They have the juice. They have the contacts.

In this, I would especially reach out to one strong and courageous person: Dear, Sweet Lala. Grrlfriend, you know some of these people I listed above. I am shining the LalaSignal at the clouds. You are needed. Arianna would be a perfect start.

If we don't do something like this, someone like Steny Hoyer will get everything he and his friends might want. That should be scary enough for anyone.

3. Well, sis...
I would leave the harnessing up to the above-named worthies. They have the organizing experience. They have the lists of names. Their phonecalls would be picked up or returned. They know the ropes.

Me? All I am is a Web Weenie and pixel pusher.

5. HELL YEAH
The best way to go about tis is to follow Obama.... repeat his actions, words and deeds. We may have to bend a bit, but he is our leader. What is he saying?

We were talking just the other day about forming an ad hoc group of Dems and Indies to begin influencing politics in our small town. Pretty much goes along the same lines as what you suggest, only local in nature.
