In fact, they say McCain's entitled to use the songs. See the final comment about "licensing fees". So at least the Wilsons' songs aren't stolen, and, in fact, the only way to view it is as the Wilsons' having granted--via proxy--McCain the right to use their songs.

However, the Wilsons are also saying, one assumes, that they didn't think through the deal they made with the record company when they granted the company permission to license their songs with prior approval from them. They'd like to renegotiate their contract, you'd also assume, but the contract's binding (however bitter they may be about it).

On the other hand, perhaps they're actually glad and the assumptions made in the preceding paragraph are simply wrong, in whole or in part. This gives them publicity, a way of complaining that they granted use of their songs without wanting to while leveraging their permission in their own favor by publicizing their political views. More than money can buy, at least more than they'd get without really spending a lot of money for publicity.

It's true that Van Halen management told them to cease & desist. But Sammy Hagar, the fucking greedy ass Repuke, may have told them otherwise. And Michael Anthony's head is permanently up Sammy's ass these days, and he's credited as a co writer on the song, even though he never wrote a note of it, or any other Van Halen or Van Hagar song.

So that puts Sammy & Mikey vs Eddie & Alex. Dave had nothing to do with the shitty song, so I doubt he gets a vote on this one, even though he's in the band again now.

Eddie has loved his lawsuits in the past though, so this one may not be over.
