Nominees for New Seven Wonders of the World
How's this for a pleasant early evening's distraction from the day's news: beautiful photos of current nominees for the updated seven WOFW, with finalists to be announced in July. When I was a kid they used to put trading cards of the ancient, modern and natural WOTW in cereal boxes.

2. My picks
Easter Island-enigmatic, and yet a lesson to us about environmentalism

Eiffel Tower--the hope that was the 19th Century

Sydney Opera House--beauty and grace for the arts

Angkor Wat--beauty in the jungle

St. Basil's --always loved the colors/architecture

Stonehenge--the mystery

Taj Mahal--it is an outline for Heaven.

5. I Thought These Were Supposed to be Modern Wonders
so what is Stonehenge doing there?

Anyway, limiting them to the last 500 years, I would vote for:

Eiffel Tower
Sydney Opera House
The Alhambra
Kiyomiza Temple
Moscow
Taj Mahal
Statue of Liberty
