You, me, most others, simply aren't important enough to them for them to hate us.

It's a comforting thought that somehow we're at the center of their world, that we're awesomely impoortant, but we're not.

They may disdain us. They may look down at us and feel that they're superior, with better or greater knowledge and moral principles, that they're more enlightened and therefore are better people, and that thus more fit to rule. But that's not hate.

You hate them.

You are perpetuating the cycle of hatred and violence. "I don't hate them - but they hate us!" That is how hatred is spread. Both sides claim to be the hated ones and the ones at risk, not the ones doing the hating.

Hatred is always supposedly about "hating the haters." Every tyrant and demagogue on history has used the appeal you are using here - "we don't hate them, they hate us!"

Creating a "them" and then saying "they hate you" - that is what the administration has done to justify the "war on terror." We say that there is a "them" out there, we slap a label on them, we claim that they hate us - and people get killed.

The right wingers and Dominionsist demagogues desperately want to bait us into this game of hatred. We should not be suckered into this, as it can only strengthen the opposition and plays into the hands of the leaders of the Religious Right and the right wing.

Rarely do people say "I hate them" in order to create conflict. That doesn't work. What does work to inflame hatred is to say "they hate us."

So, yes, really. I think you hate them. I am not saying that you are not justified in that. I am saying that it is dangerous.
