OMFG.. Angels on ABC news!!!
I was peacefully doing something else near the teevee, with the ABC nightly news on, when I heard that 55 % of Murikans believe in Guardian Angels... 68% of Murikans believe that angels and demons are active in the world... and 20% have had an encounter with an angel or demon.

Mass delusions do NOT a stable nation make!!

No wonder the polls are close.

In all seriousness, ABC has gone down the shitter. I think yesterday they had a special about UFOs.

4. I never understand these polls...
with the numbers the way they are in that poll, you would think every one of us would know at least one person who openly believes this stuff...

10. Hey now, I believe in demon activity...
There's 199 demons in the House and 49 demons in the Senate and a big demon at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Mass exorcism, Nov. 4th, 2008.
I'll be there.

12. Not A Thing Wrong With That. Shame You're As Ignorant As You Are To Fear The Supernatural
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 08:22 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
or that which is religious as much as you do.

Your seeming resentment towards those that believe in things outside our own world is a sign of your own self flaw, seeming lack of tolerance, childishness and ignorance.

22. ..."lack of intolerance"... ?
I think you meant "lack of tolerance".

Childishness? You mean like believing in spooks and goblins and demons and monsters under the bed?

Ignorance... Hey.. those 13 years of Catholic education - including the Jesuits - would dispute that charge.

If you believe in things that ain't there... hey... whatever floats your boat... but don't expect other people to go along with your
delusions. Seeing things that ain't there? Seek help and medication.

23. I Feel For You.
Yes, I edited and meant tolerance. Having that out of the way, every word I said stands. I feel for you because of your limited capacity to reason and understand. You need to grow up.

26. Would be tough to see if they are seeing things
that are not there as you see or if we are not seeing things that are there.

If you don't believe that really is fine and if others do believe that is fine too. Neither deserves to be mocked.

30. Where did you ever get the idea...

... that religious tolerance means accepting, agreeing with, or being "open" to the beliefs of others in "things outside our own world" and thus not provable by the means available to "our world"? Religious tolerance can only have meaning as a Civil Right, as in "Thou shalt not discriminate against, unfairly tax, or burn at the stake those whose unprovable beliefs are different from yours." How can that ever extend to the beliefs themselves? There are literally thousands of such beliefs, many of them mutually exclusive. More, by virtue of being "supra-natural", they are immune to natural law and taken on faith. But to believe one set of such things is to reject a hundred others. If you are a "believer", you are already "intolerant" - unless you claim to believe, or to be "open" to, EVERYTHING.

Your problem with the OP is that you "resent" its rejection of YOUR beliefs. That comes much, much closer to "lack of tolerance, childishness and ignorance" than the OP's dismissal of angels.

27. Oh, chill folks... saying that one believes others who have
passed before (or even their beloved lost pets) are watching over them as "guardian angels" is hardly grounds for a psychiatric intervention. There is probably a tremendous range in terms of how literally these "believers" really feel about it. But, hell, if it gives them peace, no problem from my end.

Religious beliefs that have no bearing on me are none of my (or others) business, IMO. Going after this kind of thing just paints us as intolerant creeps. Go after the real "religious" nuts--who would have us waging religious war and turn women into chattel-- not the average Joe or Maggie, who need to feel Grandma and her "loving lessons" are not gone forever.
