Anyone else out there believe that the powers-that-be are giving the hook to McSame?
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 06:11 PM by 8_year_nightmare
This is the first presidential election that I can remember where the media is actually bearing down on the Republican candidate. I’m so used to non-news about the failings of Republican candidates that my radar has sounded.

I first started thinking about how it seemed that McSame was being set up for defeat when I saw this thread about Faux News undermining one of McSame’s campaign staff members.

My posted thoughts on that thread continue to strengthen every day, as we hear more & more damaging news reports about McSame:

Hmm. That’s interesting. This is reminding me of Oliver Stone's "Nixon". When the powers-that-be (Texas oilmen in the movie) told Nixon that they could take him out as easily as they put him into the presidency, he stood his ground with them. Then Watergate rode in like a freight train.

I'm thinking:

(1) The powers-that-be have given the thumbs-down on McSame; or

(2) McSame was set up by the boy king (who has ties to the powers-that-be) to fall in disgrace.

Faux News gets its orders from the powers-that-be.

Anyone else have their radar up about the media’s sudden vigilance toward a GOP candidate?

news stories coming out left and right.

5. That'll be the icing on the cake. But what's really driving this change of direction?
I'm wondering if the corporate world has realized that if we peons won't be able to afford their services/commodities, they're doomed in various ways. Have they decided a change of pace is necessary?

That's just one thought I've had.

In any case, it has me wondering & enjoying the show.

21. I worked for one of the big networks for 34 years and it's all about
ratings and money. Years ago the networks actually had integrity, but that was before they were taken over by huge corporations, i.e., Disney, GE, etc. I wish they would go back to how it used to be.

22. I often think how sad it is that my two sons' first impression of important news
events vs. the lack of media concern has been during the 8 years of this worst presidency in U.S. history.

We have the memory of Edward R. Murrow & Walter Cronkite to use in comparison. Young people have no idea how cheated they've been by the "Fourth Estate".

3. Yup... I have a theory
The media is tired of carrying water for the lying rat bastards, and as it becomes more and more apparent that WE THE PEOPLE aren't falling for the BS this time, the media is playing CYA in the hope we won't lump them together forever.

6. There seemed to be little support for any Republican
candidate even before McCain was nominated, but after he won, all the GOP old line big shots left him on his own. He soesn't seem to have the party support BushII had in the last 2 elections.

I think maybe they felt they were going to lose this one and didn't want to waste a "real" candidate.

But they are republicans, and who knows how they think.

Or if.

9. How & why candidates rose to the top is a can of worms best not opened.
However, all that hugging & chumminess between the boy king & McSame seemed to give us a clue that something special was developing for McSame.

19. They were grooming Macaca, and then he opened his dumb mouth
George Allen was the heir apparent. But with the Macaca crack and losing his Senate seat, it all went up in smoke. That is why it seems like they have nobody.

30. Lots of truth to that. I went to
high school with George Allen and he was a racist shithead way back then. He was even suspended from school for spraypainting racist graffiti on the school walls.

There was a New Republic cover story detailing what a racist piece of work he's been for decades published in April of 06, months before "Macaca." So it isn't like the truth wasn't already in plain sight. It's just that the corporate whores ignored it, until his caught on tape "Macaca moment" when they couldn't ignore it any more.

If not for that fortuitous incident, we might well have been facing yet another moron with a famous father this year.

8. Pretty hard to prove that sort of thing.
Let's not forget also that the media were fairly amorous towards Obama for much of this cycle--there was nothing close to the two year war against Gore this time around. I was really curious if McCain love would trump Obama love, and so far it seems to be pretty even when you factor in their Palin obsession.

11. There's really nothing they could sink their teeth into in regard to Obama's policies.
Still, the media could have glossed over McSame's weaknesses to lift him up. Most of the boy king's weaknesses were learned through the internet rather than from the media. We heard nothing but praise about the boy king -- the guy we'd most "like to have a beer with" -- because, it seems the media thinks we "idiots" would prefer to sit down with an ignorant simpleton.

16. They did prop him up
for a long, long time. While people were saying Obama was getting much more coverage, a good lot of that was negative coverage. Anytime they mentioned something negative about Obama during the primaries and didn't mention anything about McCain, McCain won the day -- and there were a lot of them. This even though Obama was running a great campaign, free of controversy, and raking in the dough.

Also, McCain decided to spit in the media's face after having called them "his base", and they don't take too kindly to that. Throw in a made--for-TV VP candidate, and it was too much even for them to digest.

That's not to say they also didn't prop up Palin, because Lord knows they did. Still, even after all of that, along with the wacky polling samples to make it appear he had a big ol' bounce, the American people still know he's a crap candidate, and I think the media realizes he gonna lose and lose big.

10. They have more than a few things to gain getting Republicans out.
Someone has to rebuild the wealth, keep up the payments, and look bad when things really do fail beyond recovery.

They're still letting it look like it can go in either direction. They just have more to gain even without the puppetry this time.

Bush and his family and supporters are expendable.

15. Yes, that's definitely a factor.
But this is one epiphany that deserves a look into the "gift" horse's mouth. Pretty sad that when the Fourth Estate begins to do its oversight job (except for Candy Crowley, who believes that it's not her job to research lies), it could be regarded as a "gift", but this is indeed a gift horse & I want to explore its mouth.

26. The fact that Faux News is joining in makes it more likely that they were given which tune to play.
We all know Faux News doesn't care about honesty or quality journalism, so when that propaganda machine makes an effort to make a Republican look like a dumb@ss, while all the news networks are on a sudden fact-finding mission, it makes me wonder if there's been a consensus behind the scenes to sabotage McSame. It wouldn't be hard to do, considering he's basing his campaign on lies that can be disproved & on continuing the "Bush Doctrine", which, ironically, wasn't questioned or scrutinized as heavily as when McSame began owning it.

27. Given the current atmosphere, I'm no longer concerned about an October surprise.
The momentum against more-of-the-same is getting too great for them to get away with something like that. As you mentioned, the scenario you offered was written in 2006. A lot has changed. Thank goodness! :)

28. A while back,
I got an e-mail about an interesting "theory" that whenever America has had any sort of major crisis, they expected someone black to bail them out. I'll have to find the "joke" and post it.

But the bottom line is that Obama will be the scapegoat if he doesn't work Moses-level miracles as President.

I'm not sure that having McCain lose is a bad thing for the Republican party. For the next 4 years, they would then have the opportunity to diminish any accomplishments and decry every defeat of a Democratic administration.

Worse still, the Democratic Party could easily, embarrassingly and completely disown Obama if he doesn't produce the Moses-level miracles that enable the party to hold power in congress.

And then Hillary would run against Obama all over again, and the Republicans would have a new opportunity to find an "electable" candidate. It's not a nice scenario, but it's plausible.

32. Very possible that the Leadership
realizes that the next Admin is going to have one hell of a economic mess to cleans up, an occupation to clean up, foreign policy all messed up and terrorist activity that needs attention. Now might be a good time to give up on winning the White House and get some payback for things McSame did in the days when he was closer to being a real Maverick. They would love to see the Dem's fall flat cleaning up after Booo$h.

34. It's one hell of a mess, but I think the Dems are up to the job.
A lot could be accomplished when there are two brilliant, well-intentioned administrators who would undoubtedly surround themselves with the best available advisors. By any means, it wouldn't be a repeat of the disastrous good ol' boy network charged with running this nation off the cliff.

35. The PTB have decided they're in danger of losing their a$$e$.
They take a look at this economic train wreck escalating and then they look at old man McCain and crazy-eyed Sarah Palin taking the helm and they get real nervous.

Obama looks so much better in comparison. Adult supervision is required right now, they can worry about the politics later.
