McCain said that we need a "9-11" type commission
to investigate the financial crisis (I think it was on morning Joe).

How typical is that of the failed Bush policies that he wants to continue in the Whitehouse?

Bush didn't head the signs signs (remember the OBL warning) that were so numerous pre-9-11. The look on his face when advised of the situation while reading about a goat showed how utterly unprepared the administration was. OK, let's get a commission together and see why the hell we missed this. Oh shit, we don't like what they found, let's see if maybe we can find a way to quash the report.

Forward to present. The same administration thinks our economy is "fundamentally strong" (I say administration because I doubt Bush can write a check properly let alone understand economic issues) yet the collapse is so bad we are seeing the waves hit other countries. Hmmm, let's have a commission and see why the hell we missed this.

Considering his ties to big business, I don't think McCain would like what they would dig up.

Deja-friggin-vu all over again.

3. Because waiting a year or more
Edited on Tue Sep-16-08 03:12 PM by Captiosus
for an investigation to present its conclusions would be a GREAT help?

I'd be all for an economic commission, provided it's bipartisan.. but how about talking about what to do between now and the time we see the "Economic Commission Report" book show up at Barnes & Noble.

Oh, that's right - he has no plan. The economic commission is Wizard of Oz v3.0 - let's let the commission find the cause and while we wait the market will magicallyright itself! Erstwhile, you're losing your houses, your jobs, your cars, your investments and your bank accounts.

Thanks, McSame!

4. And we'll get animated stick figures that explain without question
how the financial system collapsed neatly into its own footprint at free-fall speed assisted solely as a result of Clinton-era ecomonics.

8. In other words, a commission that will cover up for the 'pubs.
Right. I'm an idiot and even I know why the economy is fucked. Obama was right. That is the oldest political trick in the book.

9. And if the witnesses it calls can tell lies and get away with it

(like some of the witnesses that appeared before the 9/11 Commission) the results will also be tainted and unreliable.

The 9/11 Commissioners knew that military officials lied to the Commission, and considered recommending criminal charges for such false statements, yet didn't bother to tell the American people (free subscription required).

Indeed, the co-chairs of the Commission (Thomas Keane and Lee Hamilton) now admit that the Commission largely operated based upon political considerations.

9/11 Commission co-chair Lee Hamilton says "I don't believe for a minute we got everything right", that the Commission was set up to fail, that people should keep asking questions about 9/11, that the 9/11 debate should continue, and that the 9/11 Commission report was only "the first draft" of history.

9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey said that "There are ample reasons to suspect that there may be some alternative to what we outlined in our version . . . We didn't have access . . . ."

9/11 Commissioner Timothy Roemer said "We were extremely frustrated with the false statements we were getting"

Former 9/11 Commissioner Max Cleland resigned from the Commission, stating: "It is a national scandal"; "This investigation is now compromised"; and "One of these days we will have to get the full story because the 9-11 issue is so important to America. But this White House wants to cover it up".
