Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Beane
Anybody else old enough to remember that?
I remember their office on the ground floor of the building my mother worked in in the late 40s.
Most folks just referred to them as 'Fenner & Beane'.

From The New Yorker, Aug. 30, 1941:
Talk. Visit to the offices of Merrill Lynch, E. A. Pierce & Cassat, the afternoon the firm amalgamated with Fenner & Beane to form the largest brokerage-and-investment house in the U. S. (93 offices in 91 cities & membership in 28 securities & commodity exchanges. In 1940, Merrill Lynch, consolidated with E. A. Pierce & Co., and Cassatt & Co., & three offices of Sutro Bros. & Co. The idea of people having to make out checks to Merrill Lynch, E. A. Pierce & Cassat, Fuller, Rodney, Banks, Huntley, & three offices of Sutro Bros. & Co. was too much for all concerned, so several names have disappeared. Tells about the job of legally transferring securities to the new firm. Telephone operators have been instructed for the time being to great callers with "Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Beane.

1. Oh yeah, I think the 'Pierce' was related to Barbara Pierce Bush.

Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith from my days working on Wall Street in the early 70s.

we can reminisce about other financial institutions long gone, like Mani Hani.
