Rove: McCain can't use computer because he was POW (RawStory)
Karl Rove lambasted the Obama campaign on Fox News Sunday for its recent ad criticizing Sen. John McCain for his supposed inability to use a computer.

Asked by Chris Wallace to comment on negative campaigning by Sen. Obama, Rove said that McCain's injuries suffered in a Vietnamese prison camp were responsible for his computer illiteracy.

"But they then say he doesn't …send e-mail. Well, this is because his war injuries keep him from being able to use a keyboard. He can't type. You know, it's like saying he can't do jumping jacks," Rove said. "There's a reason he can't raise his arms above his head. There's a reason he doesn't have the nimbleness in his fingers."

However, Rove did admit in the same interview that advertisements from both campaigns "gone one step too far," Politico reported.

I don't know if Max Cleland is computer savy or not, but my guess would be that he is. Bright, engaged, motivated people with injuries and disabilities try to find ways to overcome. McCain continues to wallow in his self-pity (through a porcine proxy, in this instance) for his incarceration in the Hỏa Lò ("Hanoi Hilton") prison four decades ago.

McCain's computer illiteracy is just another symptom of his dangerous atavism. The witty British writer Tom Sharpe wrote a book a while back called The Throwback. That's McCain .. a throwback. And he needs to be thrown back, like an old smelly unwanted trash-fish.

2. According to an interview in the NYT.. he CAN (physically) use the internet
Q: But do you go on line for yourself?

Mr. McCain: They go on for me. I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down fairly soon, getting on myself. I don’t expect to be a great communicator, I don’t expect to set up my own blog, but I am becoming computer literate to the point where I can get the information that I need – including going to my daughter’s blog first, before anything else.

Q: Do you use a blackberry or email?

Mr. McCain: No

Mark Salter: He uses a BlackBerry, just ours. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/13/us/politics/13text-mccain.html?_r=3&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

claims that his injuries keep him off the internet are false...

4. What utter and total HOG WASH!
Many severely handicap people use computers. If needed a special keyboard can be acquired.

6. McCain can't use the internet
because he has grown too old to learn new things. Some people his age can, it's relative to your mental agility. McCain doesn't have this mental agility any more.

15. He could have learned when we all did: as the internet developed.
But McCain, like Bu$h, chose not to, and .. I dare say .. for the very same reasons. First is a pernicious lack of intellectual curiosity. Second is a sessile lifestyle facilitated by too much money and too many go-fers at his beck and call.

But I forget: He was a POW! Peel him another grape.

7. I can't play video games...
not a physical disability, but I just can't master the multiple controls they have like the younger generation that grew up with them.

But I know they exist, I know what they do, and I understand some of the cultural implications of what they represent.

But then, John McCain was a POW...

9. My dad, who had sever arthritis in his wrists...
Could type faster with 2 fingers (hunt and peck) than most people could normally. BECAUSE HE WANTED TO. He didn't let his "disability" hinder him.

McCain is a loser. Period.

10. Caca de Toro!
I know people who are quadriplegics who use computers equipped with the appropriate adaptive devices (such as a headstick).

So we're supposed to believe that a senior U.S. Senator doesn't have access to the same kind of assistive technology that college students use. :eyes:

11. Turn Blossom is lying. Again. Whouldda thunk!
He can push the little buttons on a cell phone/blackberry, which are much smaller than the keys on a keyboard. And even if he fingers don't work like the fingers of a much younger person, if he can use just his index fingers, he can type using the hunt and peck method.

This is the worst use of the POW Crutch I've seen. It's completely disgusting. I hope karma catches up with Turd Blossom during my lifetime.

13. Odd that they let him fly jets again following his pow period. Has
he suffered more injuries since that time that would exacerbate his arm limitations or his lack of finger nimbleness? I think this is just simply another load of moose droppings.

14. Horsepucky... it's called a Speech Recognition Program and has been
around and available for a long time (at least 15 years). There are LOTS of disabled who are active and even make a living on the internet... many are much worse then McCain. This crap belittle the accomplishments of all those disabled who ARE using the internet.

Oh and FWIW... DH and I are both disabled. DH is in constant severe pain from a work injury and degenerative arthritis. He can barely use his hands and can't raise his hands above his shoulders without being in excruciating pain but he IS on the internet.. and although he goes slow.. he even uses a keyboard (because we can't afford a speech recognition program ATM.. I'll bet McCain can though).

Idiocy... pure bull and idiocy. God/dess but these ignorant slimeballs tick me off and make me sick. :grr:
