Remember the Weather Channel series - It can happen tomorrow
If Ike was a Cat 3, one episode of that program would have been seen live in Houston this morning. That wind between high rise buildings sure sucks everything out of windows. The damage to the Morgan Stanley Chase building, where windows, desks, computers, etc were sucked out of all those blown out windows, reminded me of the episode on It Can Happen Tomorrow. I can't imagine a Cat 3 in Manhattan.

1. If Ike was a category 4 like it previously was, you can bet Galveston would be a graveyard now.
The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 killed somewhere between 6,000 to 12,000 people. It was so devastating that the entire island was raised using earth before rebuilding even started. The city was raised by about, what, 17 feet? Katrina's storm surge when it came ashore was 30 feet in some places. Imagine a Katrina-sized storm coming ashore on top of Galveston.

6. For real
We should give thanks - it could have been much worse. Ask Cuba and Turks and Caicos.
