Today's LTTE about Palin's citation for fishing without a license (Greenville News (SC)).
Palin offers fishy excuse

After hearing about Mrs. Palin's fishing without a license charge in the news, I thought, what is the big deal? Then upon further research, I found out that she pleaded guilty to commercial fishing with a drift gill net for salmon without a permit. In our state of South Carolina, and most other states, this is considered poaching. If one of our commercial shrimp trawler captains is caught trawling without a license, his boat is impounded and he goes to jail. This definitely was not a charge of picking up a rod and reel and casting it into the water and not having an angler's license.

So please, everyone do their research and find out the truth behind these candidates who are trying to get elected to run this country. Mrs. Palin, at the time of the offense and now, is offering special circumstances that the permit was inadvertently not transferred to herself after she took over as captain of the boat. She was previously registered as a crew member.

Give me a break. As a former trawler captain here in South Carolina, I can safely say that all sea-going captains and commercial fishermen know the laws and the penalties. Salmon is big business in Alaska, and commercial greed is what was at stake in this endeavor.

Palin explained the fishing violation by saying that she had been a crew member but took over the permit for that season from her sister-in-law. Palin then forgot to switch her registration from that of a crew member to a permit holder.

Did Palin indeed "take-over" as captain of a commercial fishing trawler? If so: Why? If so: Actually, or just "on paper?" If so: Did she posses the required USCG certification to operate that fishing trawler?

Sarah Palin seems never to tell the truth. Even by mistake.

1. Palin is a serial liar........
The number of petty and not-so-petty lies, crimes, and misdeeds in this woman's life says a lot about her lousy character.

4. I also think this is about her lousy character.
She is an imperial bully who doesn't think the rules apply to her.

8. I see your "kick" and I'll raise it with "recommend"
And I will join in the head shaking. I'll also assume you're doing some eye rolls because I know I am.

3. Trawling, helicopter shoots.
what's next, caged quail hunts?

What's with these people who like to kill defenseless animals? I would almost understand if there were any sport in it.

9. So she pled guilty, now she's trying to plead un-guilty.
She's running the Larry Craig ploy.

11. Wow! I honestly WAS under the impression that it was nothing more
than simple case of rod & reel sport fishing, and she just never bothered to get the necessary license. It was one of those things where I felt (no pun intended!) that there were "plenty of bigger fish to fry", with regards to her character! I know she & her husband were involved in commercial fishing back in the mid-90s and never really put 2 and 2 together...

It really seems to "more than a scandal per day" right now...

12. anyone remember a story about Cheney stealing copper cable?
I can't find it now, but it was how he related to some audience how when he was working out in Wyoming in his youth he and his crew would routinely steal spools of copper cable or something like that. He chuckled about it and his audience chuckled with him.

13. Golly, it's not a lie!
See, Al Gore invented the internet, that's a lie. Even though he never said it, it's a lie, see. But when Gov. Palin gets a fact just a weensy bit not 100% true, you're all a bunch of sexists. Lipstick!

Whew. That was close. Good thing all the Republicans have to do is cite to some cosmetic product, and immediately, whatever damning revelation is coming out immediately vanishes from the media narrative.

14. Put a microphone on a turtle and it's still John McCain
Palin thinks she is above the law and has told so many lies she can't keep them straight. Perhaps she should withdraw her resume and put out a corrected one.

But that would just be plucking the grey hairs off a hippopotamus.
