If Obama loses I'm dropping out
Edited on Tue Sep-09-08 04:13 PM by WI_DEM
I'm working as hard as I can to get Obama elected. The world wants Obama. A new worldwide poll shows that nations around the world want Obama (link below)
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/09/09/2360240.htm?section=world

But in this country after eight years of war, economic disaster and incompetence--McCain picks a far right fundie named Sarah Palin and now the country seems to be drifting towards McCain! The media gives no scrutiny. Dumbasses in this country think she's a breath of fresh air.

Well I'm going to fight all the way for Obama, but if McCain manages to win then it's over. I'm done with politics because it proves that this country is beyond help and that the people of this country don't even care. They will deserve what they get.

RANT OVER

GOBAMA!!

p.s.
No I'm not leaving this country. Just dropping out of politics because it doesn't mean squat.

4. Yeah, I'm thinking Costa Rica again.
If we can't elect Gore or Obama, well, it's not like there will be a more qualified candidate coming along.

Without strong US leadership on energy issues and global warming (and the hidden issue of population control) this planet is fucked anyway.

most of my adult life. I will be 60 in January and I will not get this involved again.

If people can't see they McCain/Palin will drive this country of the precarious cliff it is now resting on, I too an done.

Obama has called on us to be better, he has appealed to what is good and noble in us. McCain/Palin will continue the divisive, mean spirited nastiness that takes everybody's IQ down about 50 points. If this is what America wishes to become then I just have nothing left to offer.

40. I think that some here have been so involved for many years..
that they are really giving it their all at least one last time. Obama is different than so many other candidates that we've come across over the years that they really are working their hearts out. If America can't see this at THIS time - this most crucial time in most of our adult lives - then it does seem pointless to get this involved again.

I'll keep going because I have no other choice. It's in me and I'm not leaving but I do understand their views.

More than the war, economic disaster and incompetence...
More than the spying, lying, and trampling of our rights...
More than the looting of all our treasures...

It's the TORTURE that is the bottom line for me. I simply can not be part of a society that condones torture. I've been holding out for change, but this is it. I can't wait any longer. 4 more years of TORTURE is too much for me.

in the fight. I'm not near as concerned with what the world wants as what this country NEEDS. Besides President Obama, this country also needs committed progressives at all levels of governance to stay involved, even if it's just helping out with campaigns or volunteering to knock on doors one day a week.

We need you!

28. I'm holding out hope ...
... that the American people are not so stupid as to be fooled by the corporate-military-theocratic complex once again.

I believe that Obama-Biden will win.

However, if I am wrong about the American people or if the corporatists steal their third election in a row ... then it will be my conclusion that this great experiment in liberty and democracy has failed.

For myself, it is highly unlikely that I would actually leave the country, but I will be finished with involvement in political or cultural processes that support the government or the corporate economy. I will probably look for some variation on 'internal exile'.

This very subject has been discussed by myself and several colleagues in recent days and we are all pretty much of the same opinion.

So, the stakes are pretty high in this election.

Yes, if he can't become President then the country is definitely on the wrong track.

36. I'm going to stay and fight...
We survived eight years of Ronald Reagan; 12 years of two Bush's; and eight years of Bill Clinton who was hardly to the left of Richard Nixon (I'm not puting Clinton down; he did the best he could at a time when conservative ideas held sway). Serious economic hardship is just around the corner and the next President is going to be facing very serious issues. McCain simply does not have any answers, much less an effective program to deal with these issues. If McCain is elected the worst case scenerio is that the Republicans will get the full blame for the economic calamities they've created. At the end of four years the Democrats will win the White House and the GOP will regulated to minority status for a least a generation, just as it happened in the 1930's. Liberals need to have faith in their ideas. It's certainly no time to run. Besides, nobody said this would be easy.

37. What would Senator Obama do?
I was just thinking about this earlier today. My wife and I have both mentioned we'd like to leave the country if McSame wins, but you know what? I somehow survived 8 years of Bush, even tho' I didn't think it would be possible. I'm much worse off now of course than I was in 2000, but ...

I think I'll stick around, because Barack would too. We'd keep working for what is right, because it's the right thing to do. Remember the speech that Senator Clinton gave at the RNC:
When you hear the dogs, keep going...
When you see the torches, keep going...
Dont' stop, keep going...

I have kids and grandkids, I can't give up...

As in one of my favorite movies, 'failure is not an option'...

Don't ever give up, 'cause then what's left?

It's going to take a generation or two to fix what's happened in the last 30 years... assuming that everything goes to plan heh. No thanks. 45. After Election/Campaign 2004, we DID "drop out".
Starkraven and myself quit our jobs, sold everything, cashed in most of everything, and bought a very rural piece of property in a still pristine part of the US with ample clean water, a long growing season, and very low property taxes.

We provide for ourselves as much as possible, and avoid supporting the outrage by making as little taxable income as possible. If we can't find it, grow it, salvage it, or make it, we will do without it. We hope to be energy independent by the end of 2009.

One part of the plan was to quit DU, turn OFF the MSM, and become involved in promoting humanitarian causes at the local level. We have obviously failed at this particular goal so far (glued to TV for both conventions, daily DU), but have made great progress in most other areas.

51. I'm dropping out too, have not decided what course I'd take
Following 2004 I got very heavily involved in politics as a grad student. A right wing professor I had, who knew Rove, found out about it, and ended up running me out of school and sending out libelous paperwork to the government that has made it exceedingly difficult to get a good job. I worked for a political campaign for awhile, but those organizations are soulless and do not give a damn about the well-being of anyone who works for them. I found myself out of work, again, when my skills were no longer needed, and it's been downhill in finances, credit, and health ever since then. It is extremely hard to be 24 and realize that your health is already shot to hell, your credit rating is destroyed, your finances are in pathetic shape, and there is libelous and false information out there that will keep you from getting a good job for as long as RWers are in power. Literally, my only chance at finding decent employment is for a Democrat to take office.

If McCain wins, I am either joining the other side (if that's what America wants, so be it -- maybe being one of them will undo the damage that the professor did), looking at my options for leaving the U.S. (my ancestors on all sides have been here since the mid-1700s, so what country would claim me?), or making plans to exit permanently.
