What does it say that the media is paying more attention to Palin than to McCain?
Who is the one running for president here?

Is it just because she is an attractive woman? (Probably)

In the past, it has been consistently shown that the vice presidential pick makes absolutely no difference in who people will vote for. It's just not something that influences people all that much when it comes right down to it.

So why are the media, and DUers by extension, spending so much time on her?

1. I don't think McCain cares
as long as it gets him into the White House. He pretends it's his charisma that's attracting those crowds.

2. It's because if they pay too much attention to McMansion
people will not want to vote for him. We can't have that, now can we?

4. Because they know McCain. He's been there for 20+ years.
Palin is new to them, so it stands to reason.

5. Because Palin is a distraction.....
a "babe" (ew) with fundy morals, and enough background to keep people busy following the story. Keeps the spotlight off of McCain and the Bush administration......and the fact that they're continuing to get us all into financial trouble and a world of war.

6. McPalin needs to distract
I think it may make a difference. The VP pick is usually someone comparable to the pres. candidate. No one worries overly, because it isn't a huge disparity in experience or philosophy between the two.

In this case, people are absolutely freaked out that this woman could be president--she isn't equitable with McCain, and she doesn't represent most of America. She's vastly inexperienced with the issues we are facing, and has a history of solving problems in a selfish way. She'd have been a better match for George Bush.

With McCain's age, health history, etc. the possiblity is more real that he'd die in office than any candidate in recent history.

7. Doesn't matter and McCain sure doesn' care, they are helping out the
McCain campaign who is getting all of the benefits of the coverage. They really are doing as they please. They tell the media to basically fuck off and nothing happens. They tell them when we are ready we will be ready. They are on all of the covers of magazines across the nation, they are taking over the airwaves.

So what it says, McCain is getting what he asked for. Energized his base, getting a lot of money put into the campaign, drowning out Obama. Its all his way for now.

8. It's not just the media -- Palin has energized the Repub base. THEY'RE the
ones focusing the attention on her. And that's why we shouldn't discount her influence on the ticket out of hand (as I did when she was first announced.)

10. they like brittany and drunks celebrities and unwed mothers and crazy people
so it is business as usual for them - they need sensationalism for news cycle to sell air time - this is the new business model - they are no longer news outlets but gossip columns like the enquirer
