Labor unions and Diane Rehm
OK, folks, I am officially livid.

And I have to share it with my fellow DUers.

My public radio station here in Iowa plays the Diane Rehm show from WAMU on a tape delay, late in the evening. So one can not call or e-mail and respond to what is being discussed on that day.

Tonight's show was about labor unions.

Now, labor unions are not discussed that often in the media, let alone in a positive way.

So what does Ms. Rehm do?!?!

She books a guest who practically apologizes for saying good things about unions, up against a corporate shill from the Wall Street Journal (quelle suprise!!) who does what all conservatives do when they do not have the facts on their side. They make shit up.

I do not know what planet this woman from the WSJ was on, with the things that she said, including how "right-to-work" states actually have higher per capita incomes than more unionized states.

AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!

Is there no end to the shit we progressives have to eat on as daily basis!!!!!!!?????????

I have written Ms Rehm a scathing e-mail...

2. I have always loved her show.
Maybe her schedulers screwed up. Usually she has strong people for both sides
of every issue. I'm sorry to hear that it was so one-sided.

4. Bull.
She generally has one from the AEI, one from some other conservative think tank and then someone from that libertarian think tank that I can't remember right now on the 'left'.

She wasn't always this way. I think she's having guests dictated to her.

3. I've listened for years. She has a good heart, but the show slants right-ish.
I'll never forget a show she did that TOTALLY WHITEWASHED the electronic voting machine disaster prior to the 2004 elections, even though I at least had e-mailed numerous times explaining the problems.

I feel like she gets all her info from v. mainstream sources, and maybe whoever does her research is more right than left.

On most shows, the preponderance of voices are from the right.

I still e-mail her, but without great optimism.

5. no one can beat Diane at the unruly caller smack down though. She is like
Miss Manners, steel hand in the velvet glove.

I love it when a real crazy calls in on a rant or says something totally inflammatory or bigoted..she slams them but good and hangs up

6. I heard a chunk of that same show this evening as well -
that woman guest was such an incredible shill for the corporatocracy, and they mentioned she was part of the editorial board for the Wall Street Journal. YAHTZEE!! Talk about the ultimate wingnut haven...

7. Oh! I know the per-capita trick.
Virginia is a "right to get screwed" state, and perhaps not by coincidence it has the largest and fastest growing disparity between wealthy and poor of any state in the nation, according to the voter information guide I saw in a bar in Staunton. That's the highest 20%, which on average earns over $30 an hour, compared to the lowest 20%, which averages around $7 an hour. (Here are some figures before the rich got super--double-extra rich, and the poor stayed the same thanks to minimum wage.)

Average those two sums out, and I'll bet the total is better than unionized states. But we're creating impoverished people as fast as we can hire them as temporary employees to build Wal-Marts.
