By CHARLES BABINGTON – 52 minutes ago

MONROE, Mich. (AP) — Barack Obama is condemning campaign rumors involving the children of candidates, including Republican vice presidential contender Sarah Palin. He says he will fire any campaign worker that violates his rule.

Obama, speaking Monday to reporters in Michigan, said he thinks "people's families are off limits, and people's children are especially off limits."

Palin, the Alaska governor, announced that her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is five months pregnant. McCain's campaign said the announcement was made in order to knock down rumors that Bristol was actually the mother of Palin's fifth child, who was born in April.

Obama adamantly denied anonymous claims that his campaign helped spread the rumors.

3. I have to agree with him....
It makes us no beter than the people that we condemn and rebuke. He is right. There is enough dirt in all this that we don't need to wallow in it over and over. We won't look good or feel good by spending our time looking to hurt her. Give them enough rope and they will use it....you know the rest. ....I will follow Obama's advise. He is a good man. 10. The MSM is already stating that the "liberal Democratic blogs"...
are forums with Obama's name on them. Do you deny the ability of the media to turn this into a negative for our candidate?

11. If Obama saved a small child from drowning, the MSM would be speculating...
"did he touch the child inappropriately?"

It's what they do
and they are going to do what they do

7. Good for him. "Gotcha" politics is rather despicable.
Although it's been around since the founding of the republic and is unlikely to cease.

9. Obama is absolutely correct to eliminate even the possibility of rumors coming from the campaign.
They need to deal in facts and not in personal smears. As far as the McCain/Palin campaign facts appear to be stranger than any fiction.

13. Obama also remarked on his mother being just 18 when he was born
He did not go into more detail wrt his own mother, but we was obviously reminding his supporters of the parallels while strongly saying that it was off limits. As often the case, the details of Obama's parents and his early life are described to obscure and downplay what happened.

Obama's mother was still 17 when she became pregnant, his father was around 24, and they got married about three months into the pregnancy. (It took me a while to sort out various time-line issues in Obama's family; posting from memory because I don't have that work with me.)
