What was Rove's role in the Palin pick?

I'm asking this because I keep reading conflicting reports about Turd Blossom's role in the Palin Pick.

I've read that he wanted Romney and was most likely upset by the Palin Pick.

But I've also read that Mccain wanted Lieberman but only picked Palin on Rove's insistence.

I think it's a disaster of a pick and I'm wondering who is responsible for it.

but I do think that lunatic La Haye probably had a very big role in it.
